CHAPTER 35 – Heart of the Storm The cavern shook with the roar of fire, molten walls reflecting the chaotic dance of blue and gold flames. Rowan’s palms glowed bright, sparks leaping from her mark as she formed a ring of golden fire around Azeriel. “Enough hiding,” she called, her voice steady even as the heat pressed against her. “I’m ending this.” Azeriel laughed, the sound slicing through the roaring flames. “Ending this? You don’t even understand it yet, Rowan.” He raised a hand, and blue fire surged, colliding with her golden circle. The ring cracked and warped, sparks showering around them.

I reminded her coldly before I turned my attention back to the center of the room. Azriel stood taller than a full-grown horse and his thick dark fur bristled along his spine as he locked his glowing yellow eyes on Matteo. Thick strings of saliva dripped from Azriel's razor-sharp teeth and landed in wet puddles on the pristine marble floor. He dug his massive black claws into the expensive stone and left deep gouges in the floorboards as he prepared to launch himself forward. My heart hammered against my ribs so hard that I could hear the blood rushing past my ears and my palms started to sweat profusely.
