She needed to leave. Her head throbbed just thinking about living in Nighthraven, especially since Lorcan had always bullied and tormented her since childhood. But still, that was better than staying here with her stepmother and stepsister. “Amelia? Are you still with me?” Mia asked when she noticed her drifting again. “Help me get my revenge, Mia,” Amelia said with new determination—sparking excitement in Mia’s eyes. “Omg! Is my best friend entering her bad girl era? Don’t worry, I’ve got you,” Mia teased, hugging her. “So what’s the plan? When will you reject Alpha Lucas? Tomorrow when Olivia gets home? Or are you planning something more dramatic?”

Now she felt nothing but hunger. Not for food. For control. For revenge. For him. Amelia pressed her hand against her chest, feeling her heartbeat steady and strong. “They took my baby,” she whispered. “So I’ll take everything from them.” Her smile returned. Slow. Twisted. Unhinged. Somewhere deep inside her mind, the last piece of the old Amelia screamed in fear. But her voice was drowned out by something far louder. Something darker. Something that had already tasted blood, and wanted more.

AMELIA’S POV I slept like a baby and well into the morning the next day. I’d had help taking off my dress and make-up thanks to Millicent after the dinner. Then I took a bath, crawled straight into bed, and slept for over ten hours. I glanced at the window of my rather large bedroom and realized that the sun was rather high up in the sky, signifying that it was almost midday. I got up from the bed in a hurry. I’d arranged with Max’s cousin and my newfound friend, Elizabeth, for a picnic that day. I stared at the clock properly and realized that my guess was correct. It was midday; 12:34pm. I raced to the bathroom, the time for the picnic had been set at 1pm.., and here I was; barely prepared

In the center of the petals, a faint light seemed to flicker. Upon seeing these flowers, a fragment of memory suddenly flashed through Amelia's mind. It was a sunny afternoon. She sat on a chair, holding a book and quietly reading. Beside her, a furry little beast lay on her lap, sleeping soundly. That little beast... seemed to be Hezekiah, who was right in front of her now. "Master, what's wrong?" Hezekiah noticed Amelia's oddness and hurriedly asked. Amelia came back to her senses, shook her head, and a complicated look flashed in her eyes. "I just saw the scene of me reading a book while you slept on my lap."

The three soon disappeared, their supernatural nature enabling them not to be noticed by anyone. The two spent hours studying the events within the bookstore, observing the minute details. Over the buildings of this huge metropolis, pink and golden tones of the first morning light, and she was there. Amelia arrived from the rear of the store; she had her hair tied in a ponytail, and she was wearing an apron around her waist. Vivian went around the shop, ready for the business of the day, without any indication that a man was tracking her every step, with the intention of sexual conquest in his mind.

As I approached the living room, I suddenly halted, glancing at the sofa. Amelia was curled up on the sofa, a book resting on her stomach. My lips curled up in a smile slowly. I went closer to her, gazing at her. She had fallen her hair and her earlier dress was now changed into a night gown. I carefully picked up the book on her stomach, looking at the cover page. Rina Kent. It was the author of the book she was reading. I dropped the book aside, hanging my jacket over my shoulder. Gently, I scooped Amelia up into my arms, adjusting her well. She needed to be comfortable.

I pick up my phone and send a quick text to my mother: “Mom, I have to stay late. Lots of work. I’ll call you tomorrow. Love you guys.” Susana walks past me a few minutes later, throwing me a look of pity. “Wow, welcome to the club,” she whispers. “Amy is in a dog of a mood today. If you need anything, I’ll be on the 40th floor. Don't let her break you, Camila.” “She won't shreds,” I reply, though I’m not sure if I’m speaking to Susana or to myself. I get up and head toward the elevator; a long, lonely afternoon in the dusty basement warehouse awaits me. But as I ride down, I can't stop thinking about what Amy told me: “Mediocre men who have no idea what they are touching.”

I took my time reading, and another hour went by. On finishing the third book, I realised I hadn’t read them in the right order. It seemed Finding the One was the first book, followed by The Claiming Rites, and then Under the Red Moon. This was a trilogy that needed to be read in the right order. I stared closely at the books and found the numbers on them written on each book from one to three, just like I arranged them. These numbers were written on the drawn-out full moon on the bottle right of the book’s front page, and, being set beside each other in the formal order, the full moon glowed.

Her face turned even paler with fear. Amelia’s fingers didn't touch Layla’s hands or any other parts of her body. Layla , gripped by fear, dared not lower her hands. She peered cautiously through trembling fingers. But to her surprise, Amelia had vanished. Layla’s hands dropped in disbelief as she scanned the empty hallway. Amelia was gone. Damn it! She'd been outwitted by that cunning, insufferable Amelia. Rage surged through Amelia’s veins. She stomped her foot hard against the floor, frustration choking her until another hacking cough seized her body. Her illness was a constant shadow, a relentless torment that made every breath a battle.

Amelia used to revolve around him, making him breakfast in the morning, waiting for him to come home for dinner, and dressing up alluringly at night for his attention. Just the thought of Amelia showing an inviting expression beneath Axel made Damian's anger boil over. “Damian? What’s wrong with you?” Vivian grabbed his arm, and he finally regained a bit of composure. But Vivian was now deep in thought and doubt: wasn’t Damian supposed to dislike Amelia? Why was he so furious at the sight of her with Axel? This was a troubling sign. She forced a smile and said, “Damian, we can talk about Amelia later. Today is about helping your mother secure the Heart of the Ocean necklace and selling my pa
