Listening to the chanting and clapping students, the cackling Madeline and her friends, and a mocking Dexter made the anger grow, intensifying the vibrating frequencies. When I started to get kicked, the chants of ‘slut’ becoming louder, I felt a scream coming up my throat. A powerful scream that would burn anything and everything I asked it to, something so powerful that it would tear all my enemies down. A wave of anger I didn’t even know I could bring to life was rushing out of me, making me feel like an earthquake would start and consume everything… and it was so close.

Seeing the commotion, Dak whipped out his dagger and with a swift move, he put the bird down for good. "Always bossing everyone around, and you can't even handle a bird—embarrassing!" Brownell, with his pride wounded, had no comeback and just scowled, his face a picture of displeasure. Who would ever believe that a penguin could pack the punch of a young bull? However, as the air filled with the iron tang of blood, the other penguins took notice, their snowy chests stained a faint pink. They squawked with a wild fervor, charging at Dak and his crew with the ferocity of untamed beasts.

Too bad they never imagined I had already gotten rid of it. My phone suddenly buzzed with a message. I glanced down and smiled bitterly. Mom and Dad thought it was a concerned message from Byron, and they exchanged guilty glances. Unfortunately, they were only half right. It was indeed from Byron, but the message read, "Something came up at work. I won't be home tonight." Right after that, Claire sent me a video. Byron was in the hospital, head bowed as he peeled an orange for her, his gaze tender. The caption read, "I'm the one Byron loves. An ugly duckling is forever an ugly duckling. You'll never become a swan."

Initially, I felt bad for them, but the more I think about that man and the way he treated me like trash, the more it makes me want to punch someone, but I know I can’t do that. I huffed, picking up another stone, weighing on my palm, and was about to hurl it into the air, but as I looked into the pond. The ducks began to swim into the pond again, flocking into the spot where they were supposed to throw the rock. “Sorry, ducks, but could you please get out of the way?” I sighed, lowering my arms while my shoulders sagged as though the last of my strength also went to the rock I threw into the water.

Not that it stopped them from reassembling the next day. For a while, Amber and Leo sat about their task of contributing to the overpopulation of ducks in the park. And these weren’t the sweet little ducklings in storybooks, no these were hungry, persistent, and large mother-quackers. Especially a seedy bastard with battle scars who made his way closer with an ear piercing quack, demanding his cut. Amberleigh had to admit she was a bit intimidated and fed him most of her lot. A little girl screamed bloody murder and ran for her life when she was surrounded by a gang of the webbed bullies. One snatched the bag right out of her hand. Yeap, that kid would need therapy for sure.

And then—I exploded. I clenched my fist, my whole body red with anger. I could feel a force leave my body. It felt strange—and then I heard a loud sound, followed by a scream.
