Rumor had it that it was equipped with a complete defense system, ample food supplies, and even had an ongoing research of the virus. "How did I..." I began, my voice hoarse. "Our scout team found you in the ruins," Iris said, her gaze studying me closely. "You were running a dangerously high fever. Your skin was cracked and healing in cycles. We almost thought you wouldn't make it."

At 23, fresh out of college, I had been full of ambition, thinking I could make something of myself. Looking back, I realized: the four of us, the family I had built, had survived together through every hardship. And now, the apocalypse was coming. With the apocalypse, there would come zombies. I began to read and to train my body. Immersed in the ocean of knowledge, my heart grew fuller and calmer than it had ever been. A strong, healthy body was the greatest asset for enduring this long apocalypse. Occasionally, I would access the global surveillance network to glimpse the world being scorched by heatwaves. The traces of civilization were being erased at breathtaking speed. Skyscrapers grew brittle and collapsed under the relentless heat. Forests turned to scorched earth. The oceans evaporated, revealing jagged seabeds and countless skeletal remains of once-living creatures.

After I was done, I quickly returned to my hostel to open up my box of bottled water. This was the big surprise I prepared for everyone. I wanted to see if they could survive the apocalypse with whatever was in the box, which was more than twenty bottles of hot sauce.

It was the ultimate wipe-out skill. Watching the scene unfold, a trace of fanatic excitement flashed in my eyes. I had gambled right. In this apocalypse where all order had collapsed, Ruth was the strongest cheat code, the biggest powerhouse I could cling to. And Callie’s armored vehicle? What was that compared to this?

Jane was the first to react, cursing at me, “You bitch, what nonsense are you spouting—an ability? Go die!” David immediately turned to Victor with forced respect. “Mr. Kane, my nephew has a fever. Our whole family will follow you to the death and do whatever you command!” “I can die right now.” I looked Victor straight in the eye. “No one knows how many years this apocalypse will last. But I can promise you this—you won’t find anyone else who can give you clean water as quickly as I can.”

This time, I needed to make sure that I could stock up on enough supplies for my family's survival. After entrusting Joyce to Mom, I drove away from home once again. This time, I drove to another supermarket to avoid rousing suspicion from the employees of the previous supermarket. I kept loading my shopping cart with general supplies like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, and facial cleansers. Hygiene was equally important in the apocalypse. If we were to fall sick, we wouldn't be able to seek out a doctor at all. After filling my cart with the basic necessities, I rushed over to the apparel section. Cold-protection supplies like down jackets, blankets, and sleeping bags were on my priorit
