Artemis circled the chicken stall casually, her bare feet making no sound on the packed dirt of the marketplace. Her movements were fluid and silent, like a predator assessing prey as she moved around each cage. She paused beside the one holding the trembling hen, her sharp eyes focusing on the birds' wings. "Their wings are clipped," she noted clinically, reaching out to point at the short, neat feathers where flight feathers would normally grow long and strong. "That's why they don't try to fly away. Mortals do this so the birds can't escape their enclosures."

“We won’t give up yet.” “No, we won’t.” Milo agrees, walking over and placing the tray of snacks next to me. He leaves me wordlessly, taking a seat and grabbing a book from the pile as he settles into his chair and opens the book. I skim through the journal, skipping usual entries discussing the way the weather may affect the wolf if the moon remains hidden during a long snow storm or the likes.
