Before any of us could speak, the door banged open. Kaid strode in, his cloak tattered, dirt smeared across his arms. His expression was grim. “I lost her,” he said simply. “No trace. No scent. Nothing. Kira’s gone.” The words sank heavy into the room. And then, before the silence could thicken further, Lily burst through the doorway, clutching a thick book to her chest, her face pale with urgency. “I figured it out,” she said breathlessly.

Because last I checked, your ‘rising’ friend got a guard killed. And she hasn’t even faced the Council yet.”

Lisha laughs, “Yes, Lilly, it will take Tyler a little while to ensure his wolves are safe.” I quickly shower and make my way back to Lisha; she is curled up on the couch; she turns to me and smiles as she says, “Tell me about Keir.” I frown, “We are about to go into battle, and that's what you want to talk about?” She nods, “Yes.” I shake my head and say, “He attractive.” She laughs, “Come on, Lilly; I saw how you looked at him.”

It seemed like Jess had nothing better to do than to torment her. Just then, Fae stepped in.
