Three armies closing in. Three predators hunting the same prize. Aurora’s fingers moved across the Atlas console. “Deploy Leviathan.” The ground beneath the estate trembled. Across the courtyard, a massive steel platform began rising from the earth. Hydraulic pistons groaned as colossal armored plating unfolded like the wings of a mechanical titan.

The receding tide had left the harbor floor exposed, and now, rising from the kelp and the wreckage, the Leviathans of Oceanus appeared. They weren't fish. They were nightmares of bone and coral, sixty-foot-long serpents with rows of serrated teeth and eyes that glowed with a cold, bioluminescent blue. They didn't need water to move; they glided through the air on membranes of pressurized mist, their bodies dripping with the black sludge of the Abyss. "Iron and silk," Félix cursed, drawing his daggers. "They’re coming in under the dome!" "I can't drop the wall to fight them, Félix!" I screamed, the strain of the tsunami making my knees buckle. "If I let go for a second, the Spire is gone!"

They are rushing the gap! A mile offshore, the glassy, unnaturally calm surface of the ocean suddenly erupted. It wasn't a single creature this time. A massive, churning wall of white water and dark basalt breached the surface. Five Leviathans, each towering two hundred feet tall, formed entirely of crushing deep-sea pressure, bioluminescent kelp, and jagged reef stone. They didn't swim. They surged forward on massive, shifting limbs of solid water, moving with terrifying speed toward the forty-mile gap in our gravity grid.

He made a fist, his energy shook over and over again in his body, but he controlled it thoroughly. “No more mistakes, this Atlantis was built by Amalthea, I will protect it come what may…” He felt the ground from beneath him changing its qualities, the fire current that passed under everything was making its way out. I laughed loudly, making Atlas turn quickly around. My laughter bounced off the walls of the cavern and into the water itself, which seemed to grow in heat as though it enjoyed my laughter. Atlas stood silent, his eyes venturing no further than my neck. His eyes were no longer cloudy, but a dazzling shade of white-blue; lighter than the water we swam in. Atlas looked better than ever, just as Micah had said. All of the stress and fatigue had been wiped from him. His skin was his usual porcelain pallor, and his hair was its blinding shade of platinum blonde. Whatever the journey had done to him, the magic within the water erased it all.
