I went straight to one of the pinball machines, pressed a button, and watched the lights flicker to life.
“I can wait,” Luca said lazily, leaning against the wall.
I knew I should have stayed focused. He was leading me to the last library—maybe even to the Davenport desk, the clue I’d been chasing. But one game wouldn’t hurt.
I pulled the plunger, released the ball, and let it fly. My hands weren’t steady, and I didn’t get anywhere close to the high score. But when the game ended, it asked me to type in my initials. I did.
