Beyond The Veil

Beyond The Veil

She carefully turned her neck to the direction of the front doors where just by the side stood a man whose silhouette bore a striking resemblance to Jaxon, one she could pick out even in the darkness of the night. He was just—older. His father, she realized. The look he gave her was dark, piercing and deliberate, freezing her in place. “Oh dear,” Naomi started again. “Are you cold? You are freezing. I will get you a jacket. Do you want one?” Upon seeing Kallista's lack of response, Naomi Hawthorne followed the direction of her gaze. “Oh for the love of God,” she muttered and then yelled out, “Cillian drop the daggers! And come on, let's go home.”

Sigils of Blood and Shadow

Sigils of Blood and Shadow

The library descends into an uncomfortable silence, one I'm itching to break but I don't say anything, patiently waiting for him to speak. “Did you see the rift?” I nod. “It wasn't there when I left.” “And it's just the beginning. Even before you left, the shadows in our realm had intensified but we've been able to keep them at bay and prevent things from escalating. And now we have rifts.” Leaning back on his couch, fatigue washing over his face, he sighs, “Who knows what else will come? The human realm is collapsing, so is our realm but at a more obvious level.”

He who last Balric knew, didn’t know how to read? The storm on the horizon drew closer as Ian’s demonic chanting grew stronger, sending black magic into Agron. The bitter acidic smell made Balric’s nose itch and his stomach uneasy. Agron began to scream. It was a loud, soul-wrenching scream, full of agony. A wave of terror filled Balric as he realized what Ian was doing. Ian was ripping out Agron’s wolf spirit from his human body.

Such a good story! The story flows well. Doesn’t go on too long describing a vibe or paragraphs of how one foliage growing on a home looks like (looking at you, Anne Rice). Seriously, though, “Jilguera” is a wonderful storyteller. Read this story. It’s so good.

Creative show not tell like of story. Unique and dosent have “breaks” or emotional slow parts. Love the diversity and embracing unconventional circumstances. Also it’s not to long or drawn out, it’s just the right length. A delightful afternoon read 10/10 thank you!

Dragon Dhampir

Dragon Dhampir

Seraphina tried to be firm but her soft voice betrayed her. Even still, Bethel sighed and seated herself next to Seraphina. “Familiars are the animals which Vampires can shape shift into. When a vampire child is born, they will have a silver birthmark which shows what their familiar will be. Familiars are a reflection of a Vampires true character.” Seraphina’s brows were knitted trying to make sense of what Bethel was saying. “Is that why Lord Stevano of House De-Buccleuch has that silver serpent on his face?” whispered Rose. “Yes, his familiar is a serpent, in fact the whole House De-Buccluech are reptiles of some sort, bunch of cold-blooded snakes” Bethel trailed off.

Dragon Moon

Dragon Moon

There were occasional skirmishes with the kingdoms around them over borders or resources, such as the one Rok Phin claimed to have earned his scar battling in, but for the most part, the twelve kingdoms had a common enemy--the largest empire in all of the lands, the dark kingdom to the west, Beelzanborg. Even the dragon had to fear the empires of Beelzanborg because he did not require a sacrifice from the enormous kingdom, even though its borders were well within the dragon’s ability to reach in a single flight. Surrounded by large jagged peaks, with thick forests and swamplands, Beelzanborg had claimed many a warrior over the centuries as the neighbors had attempted to push the empire back

Claimed by my Brother

Claimed by my Brother

There was no way that we would make it, and Olivia knew it too, she turned to me and stared deep into my eyes, was this her goodbye? The beast's thundering steps shook the earth and the trees bent over to allow it passage to pass. "I will fight for you, for us," I said and no emotion passed her face as she said, "I know you will." My shoulders relaxed at her words and as the beast pounced towards us, it's body was covered in soft white fur, but it was unlike any wolf or bear I had ever seen. It was the bargada, a monster with venom in its teeth that could kill even a God. It snarled at us through its yellow-green fangs. I snarled back, gripping Olivia against me, her arms wrapped tightly aro

Revenge of Flame Luna

Revenge of Flame Luna

“That’s Borg: the Guardian of Cinders. He wields black fire capable of incinerating anything in seconds. His role is to guard the ritual site and prevent detection.” For a moment, I wondered if Borg might be one of Vane’s closest allies, remembering the burning sensation when Vane took my heart. Caspian lifted another photograph. “I’ve seen him before, during the attack on the Crystal Ice pack. He was the ice sorcerer who cleared the way for the fire sorcerers.” “That’s Sariel: an illusion specialist. He can deceive even the sharpest werewolf senses, concealing their movements.” “No wonder I couldn’t detect them back then,” Caspian muttered.

Beyond the Forge

Beyond the Forge

"I can't have a coward for a son. I won't." "Are you kicking me out?" I wiped the blood from my lip. "No." He stayed facing the glass. "I'm fixing you. There is a place for boys who aren't ready to be men. It's called The Forge." "The Forge?" My stomach dropped. "I've heard stories about that place, Dad. That place is a cage. They break people who come there." "Exactly." He turned back. His face was a mask; there was no love, no pity, just ice. "They break the weak parts so the strong parts can grow. You are leaving tonight."

Wolfblood

Wolfblood

We watched as flames engulfed the corpses, instantly warming us. “Who were they?” I asked. “One of our enemies, the Bois Sombre Pack. But they’ve grown really weak. I know it didn’t seem it, but four of them should’ve been able to easily overpower us.” He shook his head. “I probably should’ve kept one alive for interrogation, but fuck them.” He turned and threw his arms around me. “I’m just glad you’re okay.” “Why are they weak?” I asked.

I thought this book was well developed and I loved how it the story contined on involving both Alex and Blake's pack. I felt this story had more self reflection and perhaps self doubt with some of the MCs. But, honestly I think that is what made the bonds stronger and independently grow.

This book is already so much better than the first. I'm hoping that Jasmine doesn't remain a doormat with Lucy and she gets her comeuppance. I also hope Luke regrets his decision and becomes jealous. Jasmine deserves better than those 2. love Blake! Talia and Alex story definitely intriguing.
