Then another through my chest. My veins burned with freezing fire. More shadows surged forward. They flowed into me from every direction, dissolving into my skin, my bones, my very breath.

“You’re drooling, Little River.” He teases lightly, and I flush. “Sorry” I murmur, but before he can say anything, something moves beside him and moves towards me as if coming in for a hug. I scream and jump back, only to take a close look… What in the Dr. Facilier shit, is this? Is that his shadow casually coming my way? “I-uh-I…” “Back.” He says, and the shadow seems to deflate sadly and then retreat into his actual shadow.

She knew it already but her thoughts turned all true just when she heard a loud sound ringing in the silent cabin the next second. *DASHH* The loud noise followed, making her alert this time. Her doubts turned all true. She looked towards the direction of the sound, which was right behind her in a second and there she saw a shadow of a huge tall and bulky built hiding behind the shelves. Her insides twisted looking at the sight but she wasn't able to see the face of the invader properly due to the dim lighting of the cabin. Her eyes widened in fear yet she gutted back to step ahead towards the invader in order to start fighting off.

I could feel my flesh burning and I winced in pain. “Stop running. You’re only going to suffer more,” he said as he entered the broken door. I ignored what he said and continued climbing up the stairs. It only took me a couple of seconds before I reached the line of tables in the very middle. The entire library was not in total darkness because of the light slipping through the glass windows from the outside. I ran to the east wing and hid behind the tall shelves while catching up my breath. The werewolf’s footsteps echoed in the air.

She started putting on her own clothes. "I promise to see you soon." I squeezed her hand in mine. She came closer to me and kissed my lips softly. Her touch against my body made me want to undress her and go another round but I couldn't, not with the watchful eyes of shadow on us. She turned around and left. "So shall we?" Shadow asked. "Do you mind enlightening me on how you two met?" I asked as we started down the road. "Just like you and me." He smiled. "I am a shadow alpha, a shadow that goes wherever it pleases."

Sienna adjusted the collar of her blouse as she stood in front of the small group of women seated in folding chairs. A banner hung behind her, the freshly printed letters reading: Lucia Foundation – Hope Beyond the Shadows. Natalia stood off to the side, clipboard in hand, giving her an encouraging nod. “You’ve got this,” Natalia whispered. Sienna smiled, then took a breath and stepped forward. “Thank you all for coming today. I know how hard it can be to walk into a room like this. I’ve been where you are. Caught in a world that told me silence was survival.”

I tried to squirm away, but it was too strong. Now the darkness started to define—a figure beside me forming. I saw the eyes black as coal and felt the icy breath upon my skin. "Why me?" I whispered, trying to steady my voice. It only reached a shadowy hand toward me, which alighted on my forehead. My mind was filled with visions—of ancient civilizations, dark rituals, and forbidden knowledge. I viewed the world with the eyes of The Shadow and knew that I was but a tiny cog in its plan. And then, blackness again.
