It was Lucas’ favourite place, and when she needed to be with him, close to him, instinct always brought her here.
She climbed the worn steps that took her to the summit, the ocean below sending water into the air as it collided with the base of the rocks, moistening her face with its cool spray.
Beatrice stared out to sea for a while, the horizon surging under her gaze, a shimmering ribbon of light that looked as though the world had been torn and The Light was bleeding through. The simile made her smile, though a tugging on her heart reminded her that dark things were never too far away.
