Oliver, sharing a glance with his grandfather, couldn't hide the pride in his eyes. All of a sudden, a familiar figure approached – Bryson Maxwell. Emily’s eyes slightly widened upon seeing him. She couldn't shake off the unease from their previous encounter a few days ago, but she tried to maintain a composed expression. “Ollie Ollie!” Bryson cheered. “Bryson? Dude, when did you get here?” Oliver replied, stepping aside to hug Bryson. “Oh, that young man has been here for a while now,” Madam Calliope giggled.

The warm breeze touched Oliver’s skin as soon as he got off the car. After recovering from a fever, he decided to take a break from work for a month. It was the first time he voluntarily asked for a break, which surprised everyone, including his friend, Frank. Oliver planned to visit Sherly’s grave with the latter. Usually, Oliver would resort to overworking whenever he had something in mind, but this time, he wanted to try a different approach, especially when he might be the father of Sherly’s baby.

Oliver conveyed his regrets to me in the form of those words while displaying an expression on his face that suggested he was disappointed. "Please, Oliver, cut out the monologue about how sorry you are, and get right to the reason you wanted to meet me!" I told him, with an unfriendly look on my face and I was very sure he got the message, that I didn't go there for a dinner talk while being very confident that he got the point. "Bethany is trying to take my life, and I do not know if I will be able to stand up to her for the next twenty-four hours!" Oliver said while wearing a guilty expression on his face.

All the furniture is completely destroyed. “Are you okay?” I ask Oliver as he stares at his father on the floor. “Just peachy,” he grumbles, wiping the blood and sweat residue on his jeans. ‘Doctor Lee, I need you to come to the pack house immediately,’ I link the best doc in our pack. He’s not far, so it shouldn’t take long to arrive. ‘Yes, Beta Robert.’ His response is something I’ve always liked about him. “Lee will be here shortly,” I tell Oliver. He just scoffs and storms out the door, slamming it behind him and joining his mate and my family.

I shout, desperate. My stomach tenses as Oliver drops from the tree, covered in blood. He wipes his hand on his shirt then sticks his dirty fingers in his mouth, and whistles. I instantly follow his gaze to a nearby tree and look up to see Oscar, holding steady on Snake with a bow and arrow. He was always the better shot. “It’s okay!! Don’t hurt him! He’s with me. He’s no threat,” I say, my head facing up but my hands reaching for Oliver. I fall to my knees in front of him, just as a tear rolls down my cheek.

“Hi! I'm Oliver Hall. CEO of Olie's design.” His oblong-shaped face was graced with a gorgeous smile that spread all the way to his honey-brown eyes as he extended his hand to me for a handshake. “Hi…hi!” My heart was beating so loudly in my chest that I failed to hear my nervous voice as I shook his hand briefly, and damn! His palm was so warm.

CHERYL For a moment, I couldn’t tell if the thudding in my chest was from the alcohol or the words he’d just said. “Because I don’t plan on holding back.” Oliver sat there so calmly, like he hadn’t just dropped a live grenade between us. His face gave away nothing—no nervous twitch of the lips, no uncertain glint in his eyes. Just that same cool, casual mystery that had always surrounded him, even back when he was just the quiet kid in science class with ink-stained fingers and oversized glasses.

“Or notice you?” I smile. It’s small, sharp, and determined. “I’ll make him.” There’s a beat of silence as that sinks in. Then all three girls grab cushions, press them to their faces, and scream. I scream too. It’s chaotic, high-pitched, ridiculous, and very, very real. I’m going to sleep with Owen Kyle. I’m going to humble the golden boy of Briarwood High. I don’t admit it out loud, not even to myself, but the truth sparks inside my chest, small but impossible to ignore:
