Bella’s POV I wake up in a dark room, the warm glow of the sun peeking in from behind the thick curtains. I sit up as memories from the night before attack me and push the sheets away to inspect my body. There’s a bandage around my leg, covering a wound on my right shin, and a few bandaids here and there. There’s also a wet towel on the night stand beside me, resting in an empty bowl. The door opens and a man walks in. I panic and pull the sheets over myself to cover my exposed legs since I am now only wearing underwear and an oversized T-shirt.

Bella takes my free hand in hers and leads me back upstairs, where we cuddle together until she falls asleep a few minutes later. I wait until she's out cold before I extract my arm from under her head and leave the bedroom as silently as possible. I have no idea how much time passes while I stand in front of the windows downstairs and stare at nothing. The sun comes up and shines through the few clouds that still remain from last night's rain showers, and everything looks clean and fresh and new. I wish I could feel the same about myself, watching the city wake up and greet the new day is weirdly depressing me.

Lucas knew Bella was trying to piss him off by acting as if he didn’t exist, she was well aware of him with the way her body tensed and she paused momentarily before continuing with her stitching. “Bella,” he called and she looked up at him. “Outside, now.” “I am busy Lucas,” she took her eyes away from his and looked down at the patient she is stitching up. “I won’t repeat myself Bella,” without another word, he turned around and walked into her office on the top floor. Bella sighed, she turned to Elena. “Finish up the stitching, and do what is necessary,” she pull off her mask and cap before walking out of the theatre.

The water fell gently towards the crystal blue pool beneath it, causing ripples to form and wave out until they were no more. The bushes were trimmed into all sorts of animals and people littered the parts of the lawn that was not taken up by the fountain. The beach lay just beyond the backyard, grass forming into the sand, bushes, and hedges turning into sand dunes. The water sparkled and dolphins flipped from the water in the distance. Fang Wei Wei walked towards the extravagant mansion, down the little stone path to the black door. She stabbed the doorbell. Hearing a faint 'ding dong' she huffed, waiting for someone to come to the door. It was, moments later, opened by a middle-aged woman

“Yes, mistress.” “Thanks.” Rain went back outside to look at the fish as Malian cleared the table. When she was sure she was gone, she took out the Bell and set it. Now that she was here, she could flash back to Earth anytime, at any of the various points she’d set it for. Unwilling to risk the Bell’s music in the garden, she quickly slipped the device back into the casing. She stared at it, considering.

Streams of tears fell freely down my cheeks as my body shook hard. He didn't respond. He just kept drawing on the cigarette. Bella's giggle cut through the air as she got off from the bed slowly. Unashamed. Bella was naked too. She walked towards me and crouched down a few inches away before raising my chin up with her fingers until my gaze met hers. “Look at those beautiful glassy brown eyes,” she said sweetly as if I were a child. Through blurred vision, I could see the corners of her lips rise.

******** Bella The rain outside was coming down hard and angry. Wind pushed the trees around as I sat curled on the sofa, my arms around my knees, staring out the window. Raymond had left for work this morning, leaving me alone with my thoughts. The sky had been getting darker all day, just like the weather report said it would, a real storm was coming.

My stomach tightened. "This is it," Cross said, confirming the number. I stopped in front of a house that was too big. Pale exterior. Tall windows. A manicured lawn that looked like it had been tended for weeks, not days. A shiny automatic gate. Bella pressed her face to the window. "Wow… there's a garden," she whispered, like that fixed everything. I turned off the engine but kept my hand on the key for a second, staring at the place. The question formed in my head before I could stop it.

Luna barked immediately, jumping up from her spot. "Shhh, Luna," I murmured quickly. "Olli’s trying to sleep." She glanced at me, her tail wagging apologetically before letting out a softer, uncertain woof. I sighed, setting my glass down and walking toward the door. "Who on earth…" I muttered under my breath. I hadn’t been expecting anyone tonight. Not when I felt this… fragile. But I pulled the door open anyway. And froze. Bella stood there. Her face was tear-streaked, her eyes red and swollen.

Leo was the easiest; the new medical suite on this level was so quiet he had drifted off before the nurse finished the first check. ​The silence was heavy. Bella walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking not at the view, but at her reflection. She still wore the charcoal suit, her hair fraying at the temples. She looked like a woman who had successfully negotiated a hostage situation, only to realize she was the one still in the room. ​The internal intercom chimed—a soft, melodic sound that felt like a needle to the ear. ​"Yes?" Bella said, crossing to the wall panel.
