Best Italian Novel Novels & Stories

*** We spent the afternoon at the bookstore down the street, because of course Alessio had to prove that he could, in fact, pick a better novel than I could. He was wrong. Obviously. “You can’t seriously think this is better than Austen,” I said, holding up my book in triumph. Alessio crossed his arms, giving me that infuriating smirk. “Rosa, The Count of Monte Cristo is a masterpiece.” “It’s long.” “It’s revenge.” I snorted. “Why am I not surprised?” His smirk widened. “What can I say? I have a type.” I arched a brow. “And what type is that?”

I poured myself a glass of water and drank it in one go. Alessandro "The Devil" Costello, El Padrino. I shook my head, nope, not going to believe it unless I talk to him myself. I made my way out of the kitchen and went straight to the library. Since I had nothing to do, I settled on reading a book. I surveyed the huge library and finally found a book that seemed interesting enough to read. "Mafia and Mafiosi by Henner Hess" With a book in my hand, I walked back to Alessandro’s seat to read but halted in my steps as I saw him already sitting on it.

Courtney shot at him. "Are you a Mafia Bride?" Chris asked. I laughed nervously and it helped melt down the shock those words gave me. Court and I joke around about Fabian being in the Mafia but come on, really? "Is it because I'm Italian that you automatically think I'm in the Mafia? Are you loco? Do you know who the Mafia are? I'm not in it! No way!" I denied it profusely. Don Giovanni Matteo Balotelli is a pius man! The man goes to church and he confesses his sins. I have seen him on his knees praying! How can a pius man be associated with something as dark as the Mafia? It can't be true!

Anything apart from that" He grinned at me and said, "Well, I did a little research before we came here, and I think Italy's best meal is the way to go." It's a selection of some of the most traditional and beloved dishes from all over Italy, served family style. "It's the perfect way to try a little bit of everything." I was intrigued by his suggestion and agreed to give it a try. When the waiter brought out the first course, a platter of antipasti filled with olives, cured meats, and marinated vegetables, I was immediately impressed. Each bite was bursting with flavor and perfectly seasoned.

“a beautiful woman like you, shouldn’t be sitting alone looking lost in a place like this” She’d heard that line before, she swallowed the last of her drink. “let me get you another one”, he signaled the waiter and a got a bottle, he opened the bottle and poured her a drink in the gentle manly way. “here”. “so tell me, Amore mio, what is your name”, he said. Oh god, another Italian, what was it with her and Italian men for goodness sake “only if you tell me yours”, dear lord was she flirting, she never thought she still had it in her but screw it, Domingo was having fun with a bimbo, she might as well have fun and sharpen her skills, who knows may be she stills got it.

And as Jamie sat, staring at her, puzzled by this change in topic, Bianca stretched her hand and said, “Barry’s old lady Sylvie makes the best Bistecca alla Fiorentina” And as Jamie opened her mouth to contest the claim, Bianca laughed and lifted her hands in surrender, “Yes, I know, I know! Not as good as your Mumma’s I’m sure. No one can come up to Proserpina Delano, is what I’ve heard.” Jamie nodded, bursting with pride as she realised how talented her Mumma was. She trooped behind Bianca, who was chattering away and soon, even before she realised it, Jamie was answering in enthusiasm.

He said, walking away to motion to one of his many ‘companions’. “Capo?” She asked innocently as she approached him. “Ah, Anita. Ricordagli perché l'Italia è il posto migliore da visitare.” (Italian for “Remind him why Italy is the best place to visit.”) He told her as he smacked her asš. “Si, Capo.” She replied as she swayed her hips towards me. I gulped down the remaining contents of my drink before placing it on the side table.

She said in Italian while ruffling my hair with her right hand. Nonnina Carla’s action forced a smile out of me, and I snatched the box from her to inspect what delicacy she’d packed for me. Arancini. In the whole of Italy, I was certain that there wasn’t anybody who made rice balls as good as Carla, and I knew because I had tried a bunch of places. Her gentle voice took a sombre tone as she caressed my cheek with both hands. “I always knew the day would come when Rome would be too small for you.”

Always checking up on me, making sure I am okay and constantly updating me even when Ezekial does. So many scenarios running through my mind, I have absentmindedly walked all the way to the restaurant. Well damn. I hope I didn’t leave anything on. Catch my damn house on fire cause I can’t properly think. ‘MAMMA IN CUCINA’ - Mom in the Kitchen. The name of the best Italian place I have ever been to. Spaghetti and meatballs, chicken parmesan. And the homemade pizza. To fu.cking die for. The smell of fresh sauce and dough being hand made in the back gives me chills. I feel like a fat kid but oh well. It’s either food or alcohol. I choose food at this point.

"Okay," "If it weren't for you being able to get an interview with Nicolo Caruso, we wouldn't have sold out all of our copies. Now the Barone publishing company is meeting the number 2nd best publishing in Italy and other cities," she smiles slightly. "Chief publisher will surely reward you," she added. "This is extra of the previous work of last month," she hands it over to me. Wow, it carries a picture of my husband on the cover page. Why is he so handsome?"Thank you, Team Leader," I smile like a maniac hugging the book. "I go now and call Director Santoro's office," I smile and walk out.
