None of them feel like they hold the answers I need. But I keep searching. I pull down a heavy tome on supernatural entities and flip through it. Nothing. I grab another book on creatures of the old world. Still nothing. My pulse quickens with every empty page. I can’t stop seeing that creature’s eyes. I can’t stop hearing the demon’s word.

Flipping open the book randomly, my eyes skimmed over words that made no meaning to me. I turned around as heavy footsteps approached, only to find Yeti balancing a ridiculous amount of books in her arms. “Found some good stuff—” she paused as her eyes strayed to the book I was holding. “What is that?” “A book?” She walked past me, dropping the heaps of books on the table before turning back to me. “Let me see that.” She said, prying the book from my fingers. “Forgotten Beasts: A Study on the Supernatural.

Those books I bought at the Webb County Library sale last week?” “Sorted into general and mystery fiction. Struck the mother lode with all those Mary Higgins Clark novels.” “We cater to all tastes, miss. Unless you like Twilight, 50 Shades of Gray or James Patterson. Folks want drivel, they can drive to Utica.” “Hey. I actually liked Twilight. It wasn’t all bad.”

I let this happen. I moved my back towards the window and walked over to an old wooden desk in the large healing room. Aunt Belle had left a book there, something which she said would assist me in making some sense of all of everything going on. Psychology of the Paranormal. Ancient Greek Mythology. Witches and their Divine Power. Fae and the Woodland Creatures. The History of Dracula and the Vampire Methodology. Werebears and Shifters of all Kinds. Whoaaa. Those are some serious titles. I wonder who checked all these books, then lifted them here.” Savenia said.

My wolf replied. I shook off the "what-ifs" that held me back and turned back to the towering oak shelves. My fingers traced the spines of leather-bound books, all of them layered in dust that made my nose itch. "Focus," I muttered to myself. "One monster at a time." I immediately admonished myself. I continued to look until I found the books my dad had recommended. I pulled the four heavy volumes from the shelves. The History of Shadow Entities, The Blood Rites of the Unseen, The Search for Shadows and one volume of Pack Lore and Ancient Threats. I carried them to a secluded corner of the library. The dust felt suffocating, but I wouldn't let anything stop me.

A tank top was definitely the wrong choice for ghost hunting. By the time I reached the bottom step, I was shivering uncontrollably. Creepy didn't begin to cover it. Cement brick walls glistened with condensation, and janitor supplies lined the perimeter—mops, buckets, cleaning supplies. Nothing supernatural in sight. Maybe the ghosts had taken the day off after yesterday's performance. The instant that thought crossed my mind, the lights cut out. Panic surged through me. Thank god I'd left the door open upstairs—a thin rectangle of light was my only beacon. I started backing toward it when a metallic rattle of chains echoed behind me.
