Leighton "I'm so excited!" Blaze literally bounces in the seat next to me as I navigate Holden's truck through traffic. Normally I hate driving it, but tonight I'll make an exception. "Me too," I mumble as I try to jockey for position in the VIP entrance line. Holden and Tank surprised us two days ago with tickets to a Brantley Gilbert concert. Both of us had been under the impression it was sold out, but the guys had been tapped to work, and had gotten free tickets for their service.

I stood outside, under the harsh sun for about three minutes before I broke the lock of the door in annoyance and walked in. The first thing I did was to chug down a beer and then get an ice bag to help my sore ankles. Munching a bundle of crunchy biscuits, I waited patiently for Blade who still hadn’t replied my message. After consuming six bottles of beer and countless snacks, I watched a black sedan drive in and park in the coffee shop’s driveway. Blade came out with his usual all black clothing—a big black sweatshirt, a black baggy jean, black glasses, black face cap, black sneakers— and a revolver carefully tucked by his side.

The seventy-million-dollar car that he beat his brother to. The room seemed to hold its breath again as the robbers circled it, their gloved hands running across the sleek black bodywork. “Open the platform,” Blade ordered. “Load it up.” One of the men crouched, unlocking the mechanism on the elevated display. Slowly, with mechanical grace, the platform began to descend, bringing the car closer to the floor. Closer to them. Raina heard a sharp, pained inhale beside her. Aaron. He took a step forward.

“I’m taking you somewhere safe. My family house is close. Hold on tight Doris—uh, Luna.” I smiled, teasing lightly. “Any name you call me is fine.” The car bounced over roots and rocks. Behind us, the rogue cars gained ground. A gunshot cracked through the air. The rear window shattered. Glass sprayed across the back seat. I ducked, my heart was pounding. Blade drove like a man possessed, swerving, accelerating, using every inch of the rough trail. Trees whipped past in a blur. The rogue cars were too close now. Then the track opened up. Blade broke free to throw his body to the side and he pushed Breed out of the line of fire. Breed went flying and when Joey’s bullet tore through flesh and bone… it wasn’t Breed who was shot but Blade… as he had been launched in the air while pushing Breed away. Brick finally pulled his own weapon and shot Joey….point blank. His bullet hitting Joey’s between his eyes.

I ended the call and kept on walking till I was right in front of my preferred vehicle. It took only a couple of minutes before large, black SUVs began to move rapidly across the estate’s grounds. All my men were disciplined and efficient and even though it was on short notice, they were all ready for war. Blade stepped out of the lead car, and I could tell by the sweat clinging tightly to his shirt that he had just walked out of the training grounds. It only took one look at my face for his relaxed expression to completely vanish, “What happened?” he asked again,
