A mortar rested in her hands while dried leaves and roots slowly turned to powder beneath steady movements.
Victoria watched her for a moment before finally speaking.
“You know,” she said, “for someone surrounded by plants all day, you’re weirdly intimidating.”
The medic didn’t look up.
“That’s the point.”
Victoria blinked once.
“At least you’re honest.”
Without waiting for permission, Victoria dropped down beside Celeste near the fire, pulling one of the blankets tighter around herself.
