I was sure that things like these took time, but things seemed different with Caleb.
“His father is a part of the honorary school board,” Taylor had said one evening while we did the dishes.
“That makes sense,” I nodded.
“He probably already asked his father to donate some money or a building,” he hummed. “If I were studying some kind of prestigious degree like my father wanted, then he would have done the same,” he added.
“And then there are some of us whose father can’t afford a building,” I said, trying to lighten the air. He turned to me and laughed. I felt relief sweep through me, knowing I was able to make him laugh.
