It burst outward, silver-gold and wild, slamming into the Herald with a force that split the ground.
The Herald was thrown backward, crashing through the trees, its armor cracking and glyphs flickering violently.
Crystal collapsed to her knees, gasping. Her hands burned with the echo of something she didn’t understand. Her wolf howled inside her, a call of power, of warning, of blood.
The glade fell silent once more.
Then the Herald rose, slowly, dragging its broken sword but it didn’t charge.
It looked at Crystal and then it turned.
One step, then another, retreating into the broken trees and vanishing into the smoke.
