Lately, I've always had trouble sleeping and am constantly restless. I suddenly felt my eyes blur momentarily in the middle of the journey. I stopped for a moment and held on to one of the walls in the hallway. My head is dizzy, and I feel strange. When I lifted my palms to look at it, I was truly shocked. "Aahhh!" My reflex screamed when I saw that my hands were covered in fresh blood. Desperately, I wiped the blood on my palms onto my clothes. But the blood didn't disappear and instead became more abundant.

Wait, blood? Her eyes widened. Did someone touch the book with their bloody hand? Curiosity gripped her hard once again. She looked closely at the other books beside it and at the next layer, another book was seen also to be tainted with blood smears. It was not obvious at all, but due to Roselle's meticulous and observant nature, she definitely would have noticed and picked up what was normally unnoticeable to others.

I asked, tilting my head to see if the thorns had pierced his skin. My eyes widened when I saw blood gushing out of his fingers. "Oh no!" I felt sick watching his blood. He was clenching the rose with his bloody hand. I quickly put the book and sample herbs on the ground and grabbed his hand. "You are bleeding!" He tried to yank his hand. "That's nothing." I tightened my grip and looked at him. "Stop pretending like nothing hurts you." He seemed to be frozen by my words. I unclenched his fingers and saw his bloody fingers and palm. The thorns were really sharp.

He made me feel like maybe things didn’t have to be so heavy all the time. Still smiling, I walked toward the sink after I was done and turned on the faucet to rinse my hands. And that’s when it happened. At first, it looked normal. Clear, cold water running over my fingers, the way it always did. But then— It changed. In the blink of an eye. The water turned thick. Dark. Red. Blood. It poured over my hands like something out of a nightmare, coating my skin, the sink, everything. My breath caught.

She wiped more blood on the cover, and just as she predicted, it broke free of whatever invisible chains that had been holding it closed, and opened for her. “Oh my gosh, it opened!” Juliet practically screamed as she reentered the room. Syanna wiped her eyes with the back of her shaky palms as she stared at the book. She had spent days—hours trying to open this damn book. And all it took was a drop of her blood. Why didn’t they think of that before! It was above her. Yet, just as she was about to reach for a page, her eyes started to flutter, her limbs went weak, and the entire world started spinning.

The carpet was soft under my bare feet as I went to him, taking his hand to guide him towards the bathroom. It was only when my skin touched his that I felt it—something cold and slick. ‘What’s on your hand?’ I let go, frowning, and looked down at my own palm. In the sliver of moonlight from the window, I saw it. A dark, wet smear across my skin. Blood.

But my heart skip a beat, clutching my chest to the suddenness, and slowly the book sliding down my shaky grasp. “How can this be real?” My voice is shaken, and tears streaming down my cheeks. But to my shock, the tears interrupted and I was gasping without air. The book that is bang to the splendor of a floor is instantly taken by the familiar hand that is covered by wounds and blood all over. Yet the book is gently touch by this hand, and is taken care of softly.

But what made me freeze, what made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up was the blood on her hand. It was bright, fresh, and streaked across her palm like she’d just stabbed someone and hadn’t bothered to wipe it off yet.

As I removed my hand from the page of the book, it felt like a heavy weight had been taken off my back. I put a finger to my nose and pulled it back out. There was a thick red substance on my finger. Blood. “What just happened?” I asked myself out loud. But I already knew the answer. I had learned the secrets of a single page of the grimoire, and my brain almost shut down. Was this the result of getting far too close to cursed magic? I knew one thing for sure as I picked up the book, while carefully keeping my hand away from the page, if I touched another page I may not survive it.

Levi Blood drips from my hands, trickling down my fingers like crimson tears. My shirt is stained, the white fabric soaked with the dark red liquid. I make my way into the tall building, a majestic skyscraper with a sleek, modern design. The ceiling made entirely of glass allowing the light to sip in unhindered. I'm pissed to the core as I make my way to the elevator, my feet grazing the polished graphite wooden floors. The metallic scent of blood lingers in the air around me, the trail of blood behind me as it drips from my hand and once white sparkling shirt.
