Morning was a young she wolf with a dream to lead her pack. She was the strongest wolf around but she also had the greatest weakness. When she is betrayed by her fated mate and sentenced to death she gives up. But a life is given for hers and she escapes only to fall into the hands of the ruthless hunters. But a certain hunter takes her for himself. As his silver is turned upon her she knows that her life as she knew it was now over.
View MoreI stared down his dark eyes.
This was my father's dying wish; that I should relinquish my power to my mate.
Liam smiled at me as he held me in his arms.
"I love you Morning." He said in a sing-song voice.
"I love you too." I smiled and moved to kiss him.
The kiss was brief but warm.
This was love. I never wanted it, but when my father pressured me to get a mate so that he wouldn't die without an heir, I acquiesced.
And although my father didn’t live to see it, I was happy that I did as he asked.
"With the blessings of the Moon Goddess, I now pronounce you Alpha and Luna of the white claw pack." Elder Octavius said.
The pack members in the hall clapped.
Liam turned to them with a smile.
"As the new Alpha of this pack, I will take it to new heights. This marks the joining of two families, my moonlight pack and the white claw pack!"
The applause was even louder, as Liam's personal guards and his pack members clapped widely.
As the last full-blooded member of the great white wolf bloodline, I was the heir to the pack. My mother died to the silver of hunters when I was younger, and my father feared for our bloodline when his life was near its end.
I wanted to become Alpha of the pack myself, but there were issues and my father insisted that I find a suitable mate instead.
I smiled at Liam as he addressed the pack members. He was the alpha of a smaller and weaker pack but he was found suitable. With time, I came to love him and last night we mated for the first time.
With the mating ceremony he became the Alpha of the pack, and I was his Luna.
"Enough of this! Out of my way!"
I turned to see who was making a commotion.
A blonde-haired she-wolf emerged from the crowd. She boldly pushed aside anyone that blocked her path.
"I'm tired of all this." She said as she brushed her long hair.
"Who is that?" I asked in surprise. Liam didn't answer and when I turned back to look at him, his face had turned white.
The girl climbed up to the altar and hugged Liam.
The entire hall went silent.
The girl kissed Liam fully on the lips.
"Babe, you said the ceremony wouldn't take long. Why am I still here?" She said.
Liam let out nervous laughter as a murmur washed over the crowd.
I froze. My mind couldn't understand what was happening.
"Olivia stop playing around. Thank you for the congratulatory kiss." Liam said as he let out another forced laugh.
"Congratulatory kiss? Of course." I said to myself as relief washed over me.
I moved closer to Liam, but the girl still hugged him.
"Liam, who is this? Is it your sister? Please you're embarrassing us in front of the pack." I said. To my surprise, my voice came out as a plea.
In my heart I was begging the Moon Goddess that it was really his sister.
The crowd watched us closely and waited.
Elder Octavius spoke out.
"Alpha Liam, can't you talk to her later? We are still in the middle of the mating ceremony." He said.
"I-." Liam started to talk but he was interrupted.
"Hold on here. What are you guys talking about?" Olivia said in a very audible voice.
"Babe, you said that after you became Alpha that there would be no need to hide anymore. You know I'm tired of meeting you in secret because of some crazy whore."
The entire crowd heard Olivia's words and went silent again.
"Olivia, not now." Liam said quickly.
"No I'm really tired Liam!" Olivia said. "I mean you're already Alpha right?"
"Yes." Liam said.
"Then there's no need to hide anymore. For the Moon Goddess's sake, I've been waiting for weeks now! I mean you told me yourself how you just needed to fuck the crazy whore, and you were done. You also told me you did that yesterday, and you didn't even enjoy it."
Olivia placed her hand on Liam's face and tilted it to her.
"That's why you came back to get the good stuff from me that same night." Olivia said in a seductive voice.
My hand fell to my side and the flowers Liam gave me fell to the ground.
I felt a sharp pain in my heart, but I still refused to believe what I was hearing.
Yet I could remember the night before. It was my first time with a man. After Liam was done, he left the room, and I was confused because he had been urging us to mate even before the ceremony for weeks.
Was that why he left? Did he find me disgusting and go for another woman?
I shook my head and moved to pull Olivia away from Liam.
As I touched her, Liam moved quickly and slapped my hand away. He had a disgusted expression on his face.
"This isn't really happening." I said to myself as one of Liam's personal guards stepped up between us.
"Liam, tell me this is a joke." I pleaded. That was the only explanation. He must have come up with an elaborate joke to mess with me.
Olivia laughed at me.
"The real joke is you. I heard about your barbaric character. Did you really think my Liam would want you?"
"Your Liam?" The words came out of my mouth with difficulty. Still, I desperately needed to believe anything apart from what I was hearing.
Liam had spent so many nights professing love to me and me alone.
And now I was hearing something else in front of my entire pack.
"Yes, my Liam." Olivia said and turned Liam's face back to her.
She smiled slyly.
“He had been mine long before you came along.”
She touched her hand to her stomach.
“And I’m pregnant with his baby to prove it.” She said as she kissed him, and he kissed her back.
I opened my eyes and saw him sitting on the bed beside me.Liam.My eyes shrunk and my heart skipped a beat. What was he doing here!?The last time I saw him, he was sending me to my death with mirth. I thought he loved me but he actually cheated on me. No, I was the other woman. He did it all to steal my pack, my inheritance, my legacy. And he succeeded. What more did he want from me!?Liam's sly face morphed into Phoenix's face.My body relaxed immediately. I just made a mistake. Liam wasn't here.Phoenix's eyes closely watched me.My heart skipped a beat again but for different reasons this time. Had he seen?I smiled. It was a sigh for him to relax. Maybe he would think I just startled from seeing him awake beside me. After all it wasn't often that I was taken by surprise as a wolf. But Phoenix didn't ask me any questions like that.Instead he asked me something that made me blush. It was worse because I had slept beside him all night. After Carter suggested that he rest the pre
Sleep came so easily that it was alarming. It was almost like blacking out again, except it was pleasant this time around.I fell into asleep and had foggy dreams concerning fires and screams.I woke up many hours later with a full throb coming from my head. The room was bathed in a warm golden glow. It was the shine of dawn coming from my room's window. How long had I slept? The first thing I noticed was how hungry I was. My stomach growled in protest at it's current state. And I also wanted to eat something. That meant I had my appetite back. That was a huge change from before I slept when I even forgot about food completely, talkless of having any sort of desire for it.The second thing I noticed was that there was someone else on the bed beside me.She was breathing so lightly that it was almost completely inaudible. It was Morning. Her tousled hair was splayed on the bed and her beautiful face was facing me. She looked so peaceful in her sleep. That was something I never saw whe
After Carter finished marvelling about my body's capacity for self preservation, he decided to start the actual process of treating me.He made sure to point out that this would usually require a surgery.Morning asked him what a surgery was. He went on to describe the gruesome process of cutting into flesh with a very sharp blade, fixing a person's insides and then sewing back the wounds.Morning sounding horrified at the prospect. She kept insisting that surgery was just killing someone and sewing them back up.I didn't know how to feel when she insisted that I wouldn't be getting any surgery for my self. She wasn't shy about highlighting to Carter how she didn't trust him to hold a knife over me.I couldn't see Carter's face but I imagined he rolled his eyes after letting out a heavy sigh.He then went on to calmly explain that surgery was in fact necessary in some cases and although the rate of death was very high in the past, he had developed methods that reduced it by eighty per
I lay on the bed, flat on my belly and with my shirt off."So this is the point of laceration?" Carter asked.I felt the point of his finger press into my skin. It felt cold."Yes." Morning replied.Morning, Carter, Roman and Oisin stood over me in a partial circle around the bed.I felt like a corpse being examined for the cause of death. I swallowed, remembering how Carter had treated Rowena earlier. In a way, she was actually the lucky one because she wasn't awake for that experience. What was he going to do to me now?I've fought countless battles to the death and it has been a few years since I felt quiet like this. It took me back to the first days I held a sword against an 'enemy'. Of course even back then the church lied about our enemies."Hmm. I can still see faint sighs that indicate a long perpendicular cut. It appears similar to decade old scars." Carter observed."Yes." Morning said. Her voice sounded distant. I wondered what she was thinking of."Fae magic is really a w
I watched Carter take a sniff of his terrible concoction. He smiled faintly.I felt more sick than I had been for a while.Earlier, I watched Carter and Morning leave the room to get the drug they needed. I was feeling hopeful. Things would finally be okay.It could have only been by the grace of Sol that we would find a healer this conveniently. When Carter came back into the room, I felt a heavy anticipation. This was finally it.But then everything changed once he opened that bottle.I had a good sense of smell, but not as good as Morning. So I experienced the bad smell terribly, although Morning had it worse. It smelled so bad that I had nothing to compare it with. Just a smell that made you gag and want to throw up everything you've eaten for the past year. But I held strong. Morning gagged, but she was able to suppress herself too.The problem was Carter himself.Morning already told me that he was a shifter. Shifter's were just like werewolves when it came to their sense of sme
I followed Carter down the stairs to get some things from his cart.He had a faint smile on his face as we walked down."What are you smiling at?" I asked. "Nothing." He said.I watched him closely. What was his deal? Or was I just the one being jumpy?Ever since I pushed that cart, I had been feeling grumpy. I knew I should be happy and overjoyed right now. Carter's promise to heal Rowena meant that everything we had been doing for the past few days was a success. But I found it difficult to smile."It just pleases me when I can perform my craft." Carter said after a few seconds of delay."Your craft?" I asked. He was talking about being a doctor right? Or a healer.Carter simply nodded."How did you learn healing?" I asked. Making an effort to break my own mental ice."That's a very long story." Carter said as we exited the inn.His cart waited for us in front of the inn. It looked just like it had before. A wooden platform with a long handle and wheels. It had an array of bottle
