He let out a low breath, placed his hand on the coffee table, and with his right knee screaming in pain, he gritted his teeth and forced himself upright.
Military training must’ve taught him endurance, but even then, sweat dotted his forehead and his usually handsome face had gone pale.
“You should get some rest,” he said calmly, somehow managing to look unfazed despite clearly being in agony.
Too bad the crystal light overhead was too bright, highlighting every bead of sweat on his face.
I frowned. “Are you… overheating or something?”
Everett’s expression stiffened. My probing stare probably made him feel guilty. He wiped the sweat off his forehead and forced a smile. “Yeah, a bit.”
