THE BODYGUARD’S HIDDEN TRUTH
Colette stood a few feet away, no guards visible, no weapon in sight, dressed simply, her dark hair loose instead of pulled back, looking for all the world like any other woman running an errand on an ordinary afternoon.
My guard started forward immediately, hand moving toward his weapon. “Don’t,” Colette said, not looking at him, her attention entirely fixed on me. “I’m unarmed. I came alone. If your man draws a weapon in a public pharmacy, it will be his choice that turns this into something ugly, not mine.”
“Stand down,” I said quietly, my heart hammering despite my effort to sound calm. The guard hesitated, clearly unhappy, but held his position, hand still hovering near his weapon.
