Bonney One Piece Novels & Stories

"It settles the nerves, and the stomach." I took a sip, the hot liquid burning beautifully down my throat. "Why did you help me?" I asked, my voice hoarse. "You don't know me. That man outside... he's dangerous and the people he works for are equally dangerous." Bonny sat down in a wooden rocking chair opposite me, pulling a pipe from his pocket. He didn't light it, but just held it thoughtfully. "I've lived by the sea for a long time, girl. I know what a shipwreck looks like when it washes ashore. You've got the look of someone who's been thrown overboard by people who were supposed to keep you safe."

I slip behind a tree and allow the wind to catch the intruder’s scent. I breathe it in and continue to approach. It is Bonnie. “Were you followed?” I murmur the question as I sidle up beside her. The Secondary’s expression sours. “Of course not.” She scans the length of my torso, searching for any obvious signs of injury or trauma. “You look well,” she deduces. While she does not appear to have suffered any injuries, her normal energy is in a weakened state. Pockets of dark purple and blue swell beneath her sharp eyes. Her sunken cheeks are pale beneath the moonlight. I nod in acknowledgement but refrain from offering the same sentiment in return.

And suddenly the Bone Crown burned. A vision slammed into Lyra. She saw a small boy standing before the gate beneath the palace. Cassian. Six years old. Terrified. But he wasn't alone. Another child stood beside him. Younger. Silver-eyed. Crying openly as chains bound his wrists. Both boys faced the darkness together. Two children. Two vessels. Not one. The vision vanished as abruptly as it had come. Lyra gasped. Cassian turned toward her at once. He saw the truth in her face.
