My heart pounded like a drum as I swallowed dryly and reached for the folder on the table. However, the investigator pressed it down before I could grab it. "What's the meaning of this?" I asked glumly. The private investigator, a middle-aged man, lounged casually on my couch as he puffed on a cigarette. His sharp gaze behind thick glasses glinted, carrying an unsettling hint of voyeuristic curiosity. "No need to rush, Mr. Zehm. This is your report," he said. "But I have a bad habit—I'm overly curious. So, I'd like to ask you a few questions first."

About what it is to be the daughter of a man who trusted the truth more than he trusted his own safety. The book is reviewed in three national publications in the week of its release. Two of the reviews are the kind that a first-time author does not anticipate receiving — serious and specific and written by people who have read it rather than read about it. The third review is in a financial publication and is largely concerned with the Blackwood Holdings story as a corporate narrative, which is not the book I wrote. I read it with the equanimity of someone who has learned that not every reader is your reader and that this does not diminish the ones who are.
