A journal lay beside them with a gold-embossed title: Letters to Our Baby.

It made her future easier. When she opened her eyes in this body, she had been too confused to understand anything. The pregnancy alone had been a huge shock, especially for her, who after so many years of surviving never had much of an idea about being intimate with others. Of course, back on Earth, things got out of control, and that book had been another way of pushing the right narrative. Having more than one partner was normal, pregnancy was bad and drove people insane, and you needed to stick close to strong people if you wanted to survive.

“Holy crap! This plot twist is insane!” “Weren’t you fighting the divorce battle of your life like, five minutes ago? How did it suddenly turn into tortured romance?” Sophia lifted the teacup, took a slow sip, and smiled. “Timing, opportunity, and good luck.” “Ever since I got pregnant with Buddy, luck’s been on my side. Now with twins? Even better.” “Honestly, these three kids were born to bless me.” Alyssa nodded thoughtfully. “Your luck did turn. But I think the real reason is you. Everything you did before, everything you endured… You almost died out there in that storm just to manipulate his feelings.”

“And besides, I’m apparently not even supposed to Claim anyone with the pregnancy, anyway.” Lori glanced over at me. “It seems like you’re not supposed to do a lot of things with the pregnancy.” “Ain’t that the truth.” I let out a sigh, still rubbing my belly. “But I’m coming to terms with it. Whoever designed pregnancy clearly hated women. Because tell me why I’ve been craving things I wouldn’t even eat on a normal day. Last night I woke up waiting to eat roasted corn with butter, lime, and chili flakes. You might be wondering who the hell craves such a disastrous combo, but apparently it was me now that I was pregnant. “What is wrong with me?” I buried my face in my pillow. Even now, the craving had refused to leave, and I was still wondering what we were going to have for breakfast because I knew it wasn't topping that.
