“Congratulations ma’am you're pregnant.” The doctor said, handing me a report that left me confused.

What the hell was I looking at?

“What??? What do you mean she’s pregnant?” My mom asked, looking puzzled.

I couldn’t even say anything, I just kept mute staring at the test results in my hands which boldly had my name…

Patient name: Scarlett Wright

Pregnancy result: Positive.

The noise in the room seemed to fade into thin air. Was this a joke?? Or perhaps a prank because what the fuck am I looking at??

Me??

Scarlett?? Pregnant?? How the fuck was I pregnant when I’ve never even…

You know what, this doctor has some explaining to do, or clearly he doesn’t know his job.

“Uhmmm doctor, this is probably a mistake, did you perhaps mix up the blood samples?” I asked and returned my gaze to the paper still in my hands.

The whole thing really felt funny and ridiculous. I mean I only came to the hospital to run some tests because I’ve been kind of sick.

I’ve not been able to keep anything down and just kept throwing up. I'm nauseous and sleepy all the time and as a model, it was just not good for my career.

I thought it would be a stomach bug or something else, not pregnancy??? How can that even happen in the first place??

Yeah.. it has to be a mistake.

“No ma’am we never make mistakes here, and we always re-run the test when any of it comes back positive, you’re indeed pregnant, congratulations.” He repeated confidently, making me more puzzled.

Did this man know what he was saying? At this point was he even a real doctor? Because how the hell was I pregnant when I had never even had sex before?

I was a freaking virgin!!

Yes, a virgin!!!

I know there’s a stereotype about models being sluts but I was a virgin, 23, and thriving, so why was he trying to ruin my mood with his wrong diagnosis?

“There’s obviously an error somewhere,” I finally managed to say, my voice barely above a whisper. “You should probably run the test again.”

The doctor adjusted his glasses calmly, like he hadn’t just destroyed my entire life with one sentence.

“There’s no mistake, Miss Wright, the result is positive.” He replied and my heart slammed violently against my chest.

“That’s impossible,” I snapped this time.

“Do you even hear yourself right now? I’m telling you I can’t be pregnant!”

Beside me, my mom slowly turned to look at me and the disappointment in her eyes hurt more than the doctor’s words.

“Scarlett…” she muttered quietly.

“Mum, no,” I said immediately, panic rising in my throat. “You have to believe me, I swear I don’t know what’s going on, I’m not pregnant I promise you, this doctor doesn’t know what he’s saying.”

My mother looked at me like she wanted to believe me… but couldn’t and it just made me more anxious. What was really happening right now?

The doctor cleared his throat awkwardly.

“Well… judging from the results and hormone levels, you’re likely around seven weeks gone.”

Seven weeks?? Isn’t that like almost two months gone?? The jokes write themselves.

“See, Mom, I can’t be pregnant, I mean I just got my period 3 weeks ago.” I heaved a sigh of relief and my mom looked conflicted.

“Actually some women still see their period during their first trimester, that doesn’t dispute anything, you’re pregnant young lady.” The doctor revealed, making my stomach twist violently.

“No…” I whispered, shaking my head repeatedly. “No, no, no, that’s not possible.”

My mom suddenly stood up from her seat, grabbed her handbag without saying another word, and walked straight out of the office.

“Mum!” I rushed after her, my legs weak beneath me. “Mum, wait!”

“Mum please wait!!! Listen to me please, for all we know that man is probably a fake doctor who was paid by a rival model to set me up and forge a fake pregnancy result”

“You have to believe me, Mom, the girls in this industry are crazy!! Look at it this way, my modeling career is finally taking off and they’re looking for a way to ruin it.” I cried out but she refused to slow down.

Weeks of vomiting and illness were finally catching up with me so I couldn’t run after her properly. I watched her flag down a cab and sped off, while I cried bitterly, tears streaming down my cheeks.

I ignored the looks I was getting from bystanders, ran to the hospital's car park, got inside my car, and drove off.

By the time I got home, my entire body was trembling. I didn’t know what to say or how she was going to react. The whole thing was really confusing and I haven’t even had a second to process all of it.

I took a deep breath, preparing what I was going to say, but the second I stepped into the living room, I came face to face with my mom, and the next thing I knew… she slapped me hard across the face.

The force sent me staggering backward and tears instantly burned my eyes.

“How could you do this to me, Scarlett?” she cried.

“Mum…”

“No!” she shouted. “After everything I sacrificed for you? After all the warnings I gave you?”

“I swear I didn’t sleep with anyone!” I cried desperately. “I swear, Mum! I’m still a virgin!”

“Oh, so babies appear by magic now?” She laughed bitterly through her tears.

“Tell me the truth, who’s that man that has been sticking his tool inside of you?? Or is it men??” She barked and I sobbed harder.

“I don’t know what’s happening!!! I swear I’m telling the truth, we can do a virginity test if you like, or better still go to another hospital to get a second opinion.” I tried to explain but my mother was hell-bent on not giving me a listening ear.

“You’ve ruined everything,” she whispered painfully. “Your future, your career… your education… everything I worked for.”

Each word felt like a knife digging deeper into my chest.

“I didn’t do anything…” I whispered weakly.

“Just leave,” she said suddenly and I froze.

Was she really chasing me out of the house?? But where would I go?

“Mum…”

“Please,” she said, turning away from me. “Just get out of my sight right now before I completely lose my mind.”

My breath hitched painfully as I turned around and stepped out of the house. Was she ever going to calm down and listen to me??

Because I know for a fact I’m not pregnant, unless there’s such a thing as a *Pregnant Virgin which I know damn well doesn’t exist.

I was going to find out what was happening here and most importantly, find out who was trying to ruin my life.

Because one thing was certain…

Virgins don’t get pregnant, so somebody was lying.
