Her brows knitted together, but she nodded, disappearing into the stacks. When she returned, she placed three ancient-looking books on a table.
The covers were cracked, and the pages smelled wet, but I didn’t care as long as I could get the information I needed.
I flipped through one of the books, my fingers stopping on a page filled with strange symbols in a language I couldn’t understand.
“What is this?” I asked, my throat tight.
The librarian’s face paled. “That… is the language of the Ancients,” she whispered, as if speaking louder would summon something terrible.
