“How can this happen?” I whispered, my clenched fists trembling on my legs. It had no author; I was wondering now who the hell wrote it? I pulled it out between the other books, but they were so fixed that it was a little stiff. Then I pulled harder, but my foot slipped off the stairs. My first thought was that I would hit myself pretty badly, considering how far up I was. I expected to make contact with the ground, and I was physically prepared. Instead, two powerful arms caught me at that very moment. His much-known scent completely disarmed me. The eyes of the man who caught me looked at me with unbridled desire.

I was planning on starting from chapter two because I only skimmed through it without giving myself enough time to comprehend Orin's theories. I was walking through the corridors on my way to Thalia's room to prepare her for dinner. When I felt the presence of someone behind me. I turned around and pointed my lantern towards the direction but saw no one. So I continued walking, I was about to take a turn when I felt the presence again. I took the turn and hid at a corner waiting to see if someone would pass. “Ahhhhh!” A little girl screamed then fell to the ground. I looked down at her. “Were you the one following me?” I asked her.

My fingers grazed the wooden desk, smooth beneath my touch, and that was when something caught my eye—a book, slightly opened, its cover worn yet strangely inviting. There was something about the book that seemed to draw my attention. My curiosity peeked and I reached for it, flipping it open just as the door swung open behind me. I gasped, turning swiftly to find him standing there, his broad frame filling the doorway. But it wasn’t his sudden appearance that made my breath hitch. It was the way his entire expression shifted the moment he saw the book in my hands—like he had seen a ghost.

Thinking it was Maxwell, I decided to move to my right only to feel the same thing stoping me from moving.

I open my mouth to answer but I slowly feel drained. I look at him: "I..." - but as I try to form words I feel my vision blurring. I hear him growl something but as I try to step forward I realize my leg is not budging, only my upper body is moving forward. Chapter 2 I jolted awake, gasping for air, my body slick with sweat, heart racing from a dream that had begun as a delightful fantasy of a handsome stranger swooping in to steal my heart, only to be shattered when Ace appeared and shot him in the head, turning my moment of bliss into a chilling nightmare.

With a determined leap, I jumped to break my mate’s fall against my body hoping she could land on my back. I mumbled helplessly, "I'm dead," as the aroma of vanilla and flowers bombarded my senses as my mate's hair caressed my face quickly. ---End of Chapter Five---
