“You want a show? Here’s your goddamn show.”
He turned to the crowd, arms raised.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” he said, voice suddenly loud and controlled, back in performance mode. “As you can see, my fiancée has had a mental break—fueled by trauma and delusions. I do not condone her actions, but for the sake of her health and safety, I agree—”
“Say it,” I snarled. “The engagement.”
He swallowed.
“I hereby annul the engagement,” he said slowly, like the words cost him something. “Valencia Nightingale is no longer bound to me by law or promise.”
