Chapter 58: The Unbroken Horizon The wind was blowing hard across the valley making the big windows of the library shake.. Inside everything was calm and quiet. The big fireplace was putting out a lot of heat. It smelled like wood. Elena was sitting at a table working on her laptop. She had a lot of papers and books spread out around her like old records from the harbor and a diary that belonged to Thomas Miller. She had taken all these things and put them into her computer so now they were a part of her story.

Yet the sheer force required to shatter bones that way—it bordered on inhuman. She rubbed her temples until her eyes burned. Logic was her anchor, but it was slipping. Outside, the forest was silent. No howls, no scratching. Only silence, heavy and expectant. Evelyn closed her notebook, the unease in her chest a weight she could no longer name. For the first time since arriving in Black Hollow, she wondered if the truth would be something she didn’t want to find.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I waited like everyone else, who was the lucky girl? It was only when the sound of feet shuffling away and waves of angry whispers that I finally bothered to open my eyes. At first all I noticed were the shocked expressions on people's faces....why were they looking at me. My breath caught in my throat when I saw Ravywalking in my direction. His eyes burning into mine with what I can only describe as pure hate. The pack fell away on either side as he made his way towards me, finally standing a few feet in front of me his chest heaving and looking as if he wanted to strike me down.

How long would she keep her hopes up waiting for Oscar to come get her out. As much as she wants to keep her faith in him firm, she just couldn't, it keeps diminishing with every passing second. She stood up, low grunts emitting from her lips. She grabbed the jars, her other hand on her tommy, suppressing the pain from the hard kick. She walked out, right outside the jail house, inhaling the breath of fresh hair she felt relieved. She began to pull water from the well as slowly as she could. "Althea Grace Miller!!"

She looked like an older version of me, but her eyes were made of glass. "The blue butterfly was a nice touch," the woman said. She held the broken glass from the jar in her hand. "But did you really think the Resistance was on your side, Hazel? My name is Evelyn. I’m the one who wrote the first chapter of your life." She stepped aside, and I saw a row of screens. On every screen, I saw a different version of myself. Some were fighting, some were crying, and some were already dead. "And now," Evelyn smiled, "it's time for the final edit."

His agreement is a reluctant acknowledgement of the gravity of the situation, and I can feel the weight of his determination to see justice served. As I disconnect the call, I slump into the nearby chair, feeling the weight of the revelations settle heavily on my shoulders. When will the Millers stop plotting against me? I always knew Eva was a spoiled brat, but to go so far as to bribe someone to tamper with my brakes? Seriously? The extent of her scheming is beyond anything I imagined, leaving me reeling with a mixture of anger and disbelief.

So in all, Evelyn has two enemies she wants nothing but to kill both of them. She had this mindset that Rayner is hers and only hers. “I think Melissa is right, son. You can't always think that we maltreat your wife in your absence. We are your family, Rayner, no who is best for you.” Mr. Miller said and even glared at Akira. Rayner was so furious that he wanted nothing but to kill his whole family. “Well spoken!” All eyes turned to the entrance when they saw a female figure in blue jeans and a pink crop top walking toward them whilst clapping her hands.

She turned and began to pound on the car window. "Open the door! I want to get out!" Jeremy was hesitating behind her, unwilling to open the door. Evelyn used all her strength to repeatedly hit the window, her disgust evident in her eyes. Eventually, Jeremy unlocked the door, and Evelyn pushed it open before rushing out into the rain. Her umbrella, which had fallen to the ground, had been blown into the middle of the road and shattered by passing vehicles. Her broken umbrella felt just like Evelyn's heart at this very moment. If Jeremy had simply abandoned her two years ago, it wouldn't have mattered. Even when he later became Natalie's boyfriend, it still wouldn't have mattered.

“…Should be mine. I should be the one celebrating a one year anniversary with Dmitry. But no…you had to come along with your sad sob story. And he fell for it.” I was done blushing with embarrassment. She stepped to my face. “You don’t deserve to be here. You’re trash.” “Lacy Clement!” A voice rushed out. Once the blood stopped racing, I realized it was Evelyn. She now stood beside me, though I had no idea when she appeared. Evelyn spoke again, “You have no right to speak to my daughter like that. Danica is one of us. And the only trash here tonight, is you.”
