He rolled over onto his back, clutching his scolded flesh to his chest, and moaning incoherently about something Lexi couldn’t make out.
She stepped backwards, about to tell Jayce this was enough when she heard thundering footsteps on the stairs overhead. A lad appeared in the doorway, spotted Jayce, and froze like an animal in headlights.
"If I ever hear about you hitting your kid again, I'll be back, you understand me?" Jayce asked, hovering the threat of the kettle above the guy’s head.
"W—What? What do—" the terrified man stammered.
"Do you fucking understand me?" Jayce shouted, tilting the kettle.
