I frowned, scanning our surroundings. "Alpha, is something wrong?" Garreth noticed my sour mood. "No, I'm fine. Just having a bad day," I grumbled. "Ahh, is it because of the 'bunny' in the house?" he asked, a knowing smirk on his face. "What bunny?" I asked, annoyed and not in the mood for Garreth's usual antics. He was often jovial, sometimes to the point of being mistaken for a clown. "The fragile female wolf in your cottage. She looks defenseless, and she's a beauty… kind of good for a plaything," he whispered the last part into my ear, smacking his lips

My wolf had a way of being a killjoy at times. Curious, I probed further, asking Onyx what she meant by that. However, she remained silent, leaving me to ponder her words as I stepped into the bathroom to freshen up. The statement lingered in my mind, raising questions about Liam's sudden kindness. Could it be connected to Sophia's absence? Was he missing her and seeking comfort in my company?

“That’s why I wore them. Though I have to say, you look much better in doctor clothes than I do.” “I think it was the lack of clothes.” She wiggles her eyebrows and hurries to the bathroom. Letting out a breath, I step back, petting Rufus. Boots is at the window again, growling, which gets the other dogs going. “What is going on?” Alyson asks once she comes out of the bathroom. “There’s a bunny outside.” Alyson rolls her eyes and laughs. “Such a threat.” “Your mom said they’ve been doing it all day.”

“It's actually safe. All the animals here are regularly examined, vaccinated, well-fed, and cared for.” I immediately nodded without hesitation. Good enough for me. Kael stood up and slowly approached the bunny. It sniffed the air, then looked up. Kael bent slightly, ready to grab it. The bunny took one look at him… and immediately hopped away fast, straight into a nearby bush. Kael stared after it and cursed under his breath as he watched the bunny disappear inside the bush. I burst out laughing, feeling a sense of satisfaction. It felt good seeing something unsettling Kael.

She stared back, deadly serious. “Who taught you that?” “No one. I was born smart.” From a distance, Sebastian gave a short laugh without turning around. Of course he heard. Of course his ears worked like an intelligence system. Poppy pressed Bunny against her cheek. “Bunny is cold too.” “Bunny is a doll.” “Emotionally.” I closed my eyes for a moment. “Does Bunny need therapy or a jacket?” “Jacket first. Therapy later, when she’s ready.” I stood and picked up my sunglasses again. “Where’s your jacket?”

This isn’t what I expected at all. It is not some cute cartoon bunny or Easter decoration. This thing is dark, almost menacing. I study it for a long moment, taking in every detail. When it dawns on me that this mountain of a man chose to permanently ink a bunny on his back. Well, it's a terrifying bunny but still a bunny. I giggle. Before I know it, I’m doubled over, laughing so hard I have to wrap my arms around my stomach. Tears are streaming down my face, and I can’t stop. Every time I try to catch my breath, the image of Knox’s demon rabbit sends me into another fit.

“And it’s Ms. Walker, but Josie is fine.” “Okay, Josie,” I start and crouch down to Riley’s level. “What’s going on, buddy?” The golden retriever slowly gets up and comes over to me, tail wagging. He hasn’t lost weight yet, but things can quickly go downhill. Riley sniffs me, taking in the scents of all the other animals I’ve seen today. I give him some time and then offer him a treat, which he doesn’t take. “I think he’s depressed,” Josie tells me. “I know not everyone thinks dogs can be depressed, but that’s just how he seems,” she quickly adds. “He’s not eating much, paces around the house, and doesn’t want to play.”

I was about to burst through the glass doors when I saw it. It was lying next to a discarded soda cup, its button eyes staring up blankly from the cold tile floor. Mr. Bunny. A cold dread I’d never felt seized me. She never lets go of Mr. Bunny. Ever. If he was here, it meant she’d been dropped, or she’d run, or… or someone had taken her and the bunny had fallen out of her grip. A gut-wrenching sob escaped me. I dropped to my knees, snatching up the beloved, grubby rabbit. “No. Oh God…”

Clara said. "And you turned out rather well," Shane said. "But Bunny has lived every day since the initial diagnosis like it was her last. She's cheerful, bubbly --" "Air-headed," Clara muttered. Shane grinned. Clara couldn't handle that much cheerfulness, but Bunny was completely oblivious. She just liked everyone.

With a grin, Cara tossed the ball into the air and Milo jumped to catch it. “But he wasn’t like this before you!” Janet said, and Cara looked back at her with knitted eyebrows. “He was the most miserable dog in the adoption center. The lady said that he had been dealing with depression since he was brought up. He was inert, eating and occupying a corner, abstaining from engaging in any activities. They felt as though he was awaiting the return of his master!” As Milo reached Cara with the ball again, she couldn’t help the tears that welled up in her eyes. Janet observed her sudden mood change but remained silent.
