Reaper says his eyes on theirs as he tries to figure out something. Downstairs, I slide into the car and Reaper stares at the men a while longer. I start feeling uncomfortable. "What did you say your names were buddies?" he asks raising his brows. "Miguel. And the baseball cap guy is Paolo. We are new recruits, maybe that is why we haven't met," he says closing the door. Reaper nods his head and steps back as Miguel slips into the car in front, riding shotgun. The men share a look and with a nod, they pull out of the parking lot. I feel tired, dragging Zane's jacket closer to my body, grateful that he had been thoughtful enough to give it to me.

the guard replied before turning back toward the packhouse. “What the fuck is wrong with people? He is protecting a criminal, a kidnapper. Is it because Xavier’s an Alpha’s son or what,” Daniel growled, pushing the car door open and stepped out. “Where are you going? We have to wait. I have got a feeling Xavier will show up,” Mason called out. “We aren’t even sure my sister’s in there, since you said you can’t catch her scent,” Daniel remarked, already walking toward the gate. The guards had all gone inside with the other one, as if it took more than one to report. Daniel frowned and pushed the gate, it was unlocked. He glanced inside, then slipped through.

We're standing in the hall, facing off like we're about to go down and wrestle in the pack training ground, when Damien comes wandering in, one eyebrow raised as he takes in the scene . "What's going on here?" he asks, a suspicious smile moving at his lips. "Daniel's trying to prove that he's not totally useless," David says, crossing his arms over his chest. "And he's failing.” "Oh, is that right?" I reply, playing offended. "Because I could've sworn that a certain somebody needed my help to take down some rogue just the other day." David snorts. "Right. I had him right where I wanted him. Damien shakes his head but a smile curves on his lips.

His eyes were still focused on me, watching my reaction with an intensity that made the atmosphere even heavier. “So, what were you doing there and with whom?” I said more like interrogating him. He handed me the book again. Then he pointed to a photo of someone embracing Mr David. “He's my best friend. His name is Daniel Davidson.” When he said Daniel's name, his eyes lit up, as if there was regret hidden there. “We took this photo on his birthday on the 13th of August.” He caught his breath, as if preparing to say something heavier. “And he... died the day after.”

Valerie: Morning sunlight spilled across the terrace, warm and soft against my skin as I stepped outside. The breeze carried the faint scent of pine and fresh earth, the quiet hum of the pack grounds far below. Everything felt calmer now, steadier, like the world had finally exhaled after months of choking tension. “Val.” I turned. Xavier stood in the doorway, dressed in a dark shirt with the sleeves rolled to his forearms. His eyes, those steady storm-blue eyes, held something different today. A warmth. A nervousness. It wasn’t perfect, but it was covered enough for us to hide till the morning. “Alright, guys,” I announced, “I know everybody is tired. So we are camping here tonight. Tomorrow morning I will make sure everybody gets to their destination. Remember, be calm. This place is not safe either, but it’s better than the open field.” Everyone sat down immediately, almost collapsing into the ground. Daniel didn’t wait for instructions. He searched around, found some sticks, and arranged them neatly. Then he brought out a small smoking lighter from his pocket. When he flicked it, the sparks caught instantly, and the fire came alive.
