The silence in Dean Vance’s office was heavy enough to crush a diamond. Charlotte Hart stood in the doorway, her cheer bag slung over one shoulder, her smile frozen in place like a mask that had suddenly become too tight. She looked from me to Evans, then to the laptop screen facing her on the mahogany desk. On the screen, a grainy, black-and-white version of Charlotte was dropping a white pill into a drink. The smile vanished. "What is this?" Charlotte asked, her voice pitching up an octave. She dropped her bag. It hit the floor with a dull thud.

Jack advised while handing her a plate of food. I tried not to laugh, any other girl and he would have told them they had to contribute. Charlotte really had gotten to him. I wondered if maybe Lance was right, and it would be only two weeks. After dinner we all retired to the lounge to watch a movie. Jack quickly picked Charlotte up and placed her between us on the couch. I was not sure how long the poor girl would last, she looked exhausted. I was not surprised that only ten minutes into the movie she was fast asleep snuggled into Jack who kept smiling down at her. The movie had just finished when Daisy arrived, Lance drew the short straw and was the one who had to let her in. I watched her

"This okay?" "Perfect." She settles against my side, pulling my arm around her shoulders. The movie starts, and for a while, everything is good. Normal. Just the two of us, watching a ridiculous comedy, laughing at stupid jokes. About halfway through, Charlotte shifts, turning to look at me. "What?" I ask. "Nothing. Just..." She smiles. "Thank you. For this. For making everything feel less scary." "Always." She kisses me, and it starts out soft, sweet. But then her hand slides up to cup my face, and the kiss deepens.

However, she couldn't stay too long, worried someone might recognize her. "So, what do you think? Do you agree with my offer?" Devon asked. "Pretend to be your girlfriend? That's ridiculous," Charlotte said. Devon laughed. "I guarantee that one day you'll accept my offer." Charlotte shrugged, then knelt down and affectionately rubbed Kattie's neck. "You're so beautiful." She opened a can of dog food and placed it on the ground for Kattie to eat.

Charlotte heard him place the tray on the table before she felt his hand on hers. Prince Lucas gently pulled her up. "See? That wasn't so hard." He said proudly. Charlotte rolled her eyes. He plopped down beside her. "What do you want to watch?" He asked her. Charlotte shrugged, not really feeling right for a movie. "Avatar?" Charlotte looked at him, surprised. "That was random." She said. "It's a classic and quite wise too." Charlotte didn't know how to react so she just chuckled.

Mitch wipes her face with a tissue then pops her back in her bed. Charlotte stands, hands held away from her body, dripping with puke, stinking, and looking like a kind of whited-out version of Carrie in the final scene of the movie. Creamy vomit is splashed over her hands and face. Her designer sweater is sopping and the brand-new skirt is, if not ruined, at least unusable again before a visit to the dry cleaners. She bursts into tears. "Hey, come on," I say, trying to laugh it away. "It's not the end of the world."

she asks quietly. A pause. ⸻ Long enough. ⸻ “This wasn’t supposed to happen like this,” he mutters. ⸻ Charlotte closes the laptop. ⸻ Not because she’s done watching. But because she doesn’t need more. ⸻ They’re breaking. ⸻ Exactly as planned. ⸻ The next morning, Charlotte stands outside a glass building in the heart of the city. Tall. Sharp. Commanding. ⸻ She steps inside.

Charlotte. Charlotte, the woman just been fired from Wilson Paragon, now a twisted figure of jealousy and revenge. The sight of her fills me with a bitter mix of emotions. This was her doing, her attempt to harm me out of spite. But instead of achieving her goal, she lost control and caused this catastrophe. The scene replays in my mind; her car speeding toward me, Adam's heroic leap to save me, the crash that ensued.

I just never thought the start of my college life would be like this. After our dinner, we also watched Pride and Prejudice. It's my all-time favorite movie and I love rewatching it. Taylor already watched it too, as well as Sean. Flint said he has heard about it but never watched the movie, and never read the book. Good thing I was the one who chose the movie. It's about time he witnessed a masterpiece that is Jane Austen. We were in the middle of the movie when Taylor suddenly laughed. I scowled, because there was nothing funny on the scene we're currently in.
