I stood outside Ellis Design Group for several minutes, staring up at the building above me, before I worked up the courage to go in. I couldn’t afford to let this job slip through my fingers. “Get it together,” I whispered, before pulling the door open and stepping inside. A woman with sleek auburn hair walked toward me with a bright smile.

“You have an excuse for everything, don’t you?” “Most of the time,” I agree pleasantly. “I also didn’t realize you could get drunk off the stuff humans make.” “Defective, remember?” Charlotte rolls her eyes, then turns on the coffee machine. “I get drunk quickly, but it’s not like my metabolism is as slow as a human’s. I sober up pretty fast. An hour or so. It’s weird. I’ve only ever tried beer, and I didn’t like it. Based on that experience, I thought all alcoholic drinks tasted like pee.”

She gave Charlotte a thumbs-up in respect. Charlotte did not pay her much mind and took a sip of the red wine nearby, elegantly standing up. “It’s nothing. People like her are the most hypocritical. That video is just the tip of the iceberg; I have plenty more!” Charlotte pulled out her phone and showed everything to Joan.

She whispered and I could see sympathy in her eyes. “Who are you talking about?” I asked. It was likely that she was referring to Jared but I had not expected Tyler to discuss such with someone who was just out of the hospital and had amnesia. Especially not with everything we had found out about her, Charlotte tilted her head to the side and frowned. Her eyes held no sign of familiarity of any level, the sympathy I saw in them seemed for now as she licked her lips. “Would you like to come in? I am sure your legs are hurting you from standing so long,” she said as she pushed the door open. It was now I noticed that she was holding a transparent jug of water. It was my turn to frown.

Alex retorted through gritted teeth. After she left the hospital, Charlotte went to a nearby cafe. When Charlotte sat down, she remembered that she couldn’t drink coffee as she was pregnant. Because of this, she ordered two cups of coffee for Rosy and Tia instead and asked them to sit with her. The sunlight was shining through the window, illuminating the coffee shop with a warm glow. Charlotte touched her baby bump and looked us out the window. At the next table, two girls were chatting excitedly. “Of course, is true. I just came from his office. Mr. Darren Venzor asked me to be the model for their new car.”

Charlotte sighs and closes her eyes. She has a headache and it won’t just stop. She has taken the medicine but looks like it isn’t working. When she opens her eyes she sees Katya walking towards the house. Charlotte slightly smiles and stands up from the chair. “Hey! Ready?” Katya asks. “Yeah. Just give me a minute.” Charlotte says and quickly sips some water and then follows Katya out. “So…Everything alright?” “Yeah..just a headache.”

She had just spent the last six hours of her day, preparing for the company’s big launch. The day had been one hectic day for her. From getting her hair and makeup done to having to change into countless outfits and having to strike various poses; she was dead tired. “Here, drink this,” he said, handing over a bottle of water to charlotte. “Thank you,” Charlotte said and took the bottle. She didn’t realize how dehydrated she was until she started drinking the water. “Woah, slow down so you don’t choke on it,” Christian cautioned when he saw how fast she was drinking the water.

She then bends down to retrieve her pile of books from the ground and stands up. "My name is Charlotte" I tell her and extend my hand forward as a kind gesture. She looks at me from top to bottom. I know that my gesture has taken her by surprise and she continues to look nervous. I look at her and to my surprise, she takes my hand and shakes it with a sweet smile. "Hi, my name is Adele, nice to meet you Charlotte" she says with a smile. "Are you a newcomer too?" she continues. "Yes, are you?" I ask her returning her smile.

Freda's eyes got big. "My mother may not be who I believed her to be." A creak came from behind them. They pivoted. Charlotte was standing in the doorway. alive. charred. However, standing. And a vial in her hand. "Freda, this is it," Charlotte muttered. Then everything turned dark.

sign at the back of the club. ******* Outside, the night air was cool, thick with the scent of smoke and the distant ocean breeze. The noise from the club was muffled now, just a deep thump behind the brick wall. Charlotte was sitting on top of one of the big outdoor air-conditioning units, a half-empty bottle of whiskey in her hand. Her legs were crossed, her shoulders slouched, her head tilted back toward the sky. The moonlight casting dark shadows all over the place. Johnny stopped a few steps away, watching her for a second. She looked both beautiful and sad… like a painting coming to life.
