and then I saw her.
Chloe stood at the center of it all, her back to me, barking orders to her remaining loyalists as they tried to hold the line against Captain Wells’ soldiers. Her hair was matted with sweat, her clothes streaked with ash and blood, but she was still standing tall, defiant, as if the chaos around her couldn’t touch her.
“Chloe!” I shouted, my voice hoarse.
She turned, her eyes widening slightly when she saw me, but then her expression hardened. "Maya," she said, her voice cold and sharp. "You shouldn’t be here."
