Ella: As the clock struck 12 on Christmas Eve, I made a wish asking God to send me my saviour and bless my parent’s souls. After attending the midnight mass, we come out of the church to be welcomed by tiny little flakes of snow colouring the whole landscape of this city. There was something so magical about this season, it brought out the best in me! We came home to a brightly decorated house which took me almost a month of planning and execution. The string lights and the star of Bethlehem sparkled amongst tiny balls of cotton resembling snow at the bottom of the tree.

One of the councillors — Elder Marrick, scarred from brow to chin — stepped forward, pointing a gnarled finger. “You’ve damned us. Every ledger, every prophecy warned against letting the First into flesh. Now it’s in you.” Killian’s head snapped toward him, and for a moment — only a moment — the shadows in the crypt bent with his gaze, pooling, thickening, as if they bowed to his attention. Marrick flinched, stumbling back. “I’m not it,” Killian said, quiet but sharp. “I’m still me.” “Are you?” Marrick spat. “Because I saw your eyes when you rose. I saw the vault answer you.”

I say with a shrug. A look crosses my mother’s face, one that tells me she can see through my bullshit, but I shrug it off. If I want to come out of this unscathed, I’ll have to keep my distance from Christian. Isabella's POV My hands shook as I stared at the pregnancy test. Two pink lines. Clear and undeniable. Tears of joy streamed down my face as I touched the silver Santa Muerte medallion around my neck. "*Gracias, Santa Muerte*," I whispered. "Thank you for this miracle." "What miracle would that be, darling?" I froze at Adrian's reflection in the bathroom mirror. He stood in the doorway, holding two champagne flutes, his green eyes calculating even as he smiled.

“This is the best Christmas ever. I got just what I wanted. A puppy. A fairy house. And my own daddy.” He looked into Sparkle’s eyes and she felt his love, his pleasure at the moment, and she knew that none of them would ever be lonely again. “Merry Christmas, my darling Kaleb.” “Merry Christmas, my sweet love.” And in the lights of the tree, Kaleb sealed their new life with a kiss that had Hayzel applauding and sent the new puppy barking. Everything, Sparkle thought, was now perfect. -THE END-

Miracle rattled the slips, checking if there were any secret papers hidden in between. But there was none. The second half of the story was gone. "C'mon... Don't do this to me. I have to know the story." Miracle pressed her fingers to her lips, murmuring lines of undefinable words that echoed softly in the dimly lit room. As she chanted, a gentle swirl of white light unfurled from her fingertips, enveloping her hand in a shimmering embrace. Silvery tendrils of smoke swirled into the room, weaving in response to her invocation. They laid atop her mark of divinity on her chest, and seconds later, the bulging veins around her reddening mark began to ease.

We ended up on the couch again, side by side, sharing the throw blanket, my head found his shoulder, his arm curled around me. For a minute it felt… peaceful. Almost normal. Then he spoke, voice quiet. “You know Christmas is supposed to be about miracles, right?” I tilted my head to look at him. “Sure.” His eyes were strange suddenly too bright, too deep. “What if I told you I’m not exactly… what you think I am?” I frowned. “What do you mean?” Before he could answer, three hard knocks rang through the door. My pulse jumped, Alex went still beside me.

As the news sunk in, a flicker of excitement rushed through me. It really was a Christmas miracle.
