The room fell silent. Every eye at the conference table swung toward Ashley, who had not yet lowered her foot, and Eric, who still clutched the door seal.
Ashley's teeth chattered with fear. Her legs felt like jelly. She had to grip the door to keep herself from collapsing, and even then, her fingers trembled.
Ernest set down his document and frowned. Somehow, that alone was enough to make the students feel as though they could barely breathe.
