The mercenaries were coming down the pipe on foot now, their flashlights cutting through the rising foam.
The suit was with them. His voice came through the pipe, clear and calm.
"The code, Vivienne," he said from the dark. "Give me the sequence, and I'll open the gate."
I looked down at my left foot under the black water. The scabs were gone. The skin was torn. The trillion-dollar line was nothing but blood and mud.
"It's gone," I shouted back into the dark. "Julian's ghost is dead."
The suit didn't answer.
