Across the room, I see them. Gwen and CK near the drinks. She’s talking animatedly, gesturing with her cup. He’s listening—nodding, small smile. Then one of his friends—tall, dark-haired, easy grin—slides in. Says something that makes Gwen laugh. He leans closer, compliments her dress. His eyes linger. He’s into her. Obviously. Gwen blushes, plays with her hair. The friend keeps talking—smooth, charming, keeping her attention. CK glances around once.

Chapter 12: Sour Grapes and arguments Gwen Nico stood when he saw me enter the coffee shop, his face a mixture of relief and fury. He looked thinner, dark circles under his eyes suggesting he'd been as sleepless as I had. "Gwen!" He rushed over and pulled me into a crushing hug. "Don't you ever do that to me again. "Gwen, can I officially be your boyfriend from now on?" A click sounded from somewhere, snapping Gwen out of her reverie. She looked in the direction of the sound and realized that Cook had taken a photo of them. Cook stared back at her and gave her a thumbs-up, encouraging her to summon the courage she needed in this situation. Gwen then glanced at Caroline beside him, who smiled and nodded at her. Gwen turned to look at Sean again. She sniffed and said, "After three months of assessment, I can say that you, Sean, have performed …"

It never crossed Gwen's mind that she would bump into Finn in this event. He hadn't mentioned anything to her, but giving it a second thought, he didn't have to. They were not a couple, and Cody was staying with her that night, so he could do whatever he wanted. But seeing him there, extremely handsome and sexy, drinking from his glass of whisky, was not the distraction that Gwen had in mind for the evening. She wanted to forget about all the things that happened in the last few days, and not have to stare to one of the main reasons she was trying to have a night off.

Gwen was looking forward to having a hot shower and then heading to her pack to meet up with Isadora. Gwen had missed her and had hoped that while she was away she hadn’t done something stupid like the night she went to find Dean Alpha Blackmoor.
