CHAPTER ELEVEN -> AWAKENING So the new church doesn’t have a single nun in it but not to worry I have got my eyes on a bigger, curvy, perky fish. I was still not familiar with most of their names. Not that I cared, but deep down, I wanted to feel welcomed. Those thoughts vanished the moment one of them opened her mouth. "...Did you see her shoes today?” the blonde one hissed, pretending to shuffle some papers. “Isn’t that the same pair she’s been wearing for three days now?” the black-haired girl snorted. “Take a look at her bag. Are you not seeing it?” She nodded in my direction. “Looks like she fished it out of a donation bin.”

Evelyn’s POV: Grace’s diary made it painfully clear how Sophie had tempted her and dragged her down into the mud. It was like a debt spiral. She borrowed money at the casino, then used money from prostitution to pay it back, only to borrow even more from the casino because she still could not cover the payments. That brings me to my feet as I put on my coat before hurrying out. Barely reaching the store, I hear the clatters coming from it, mingled with a female’s shrieking voice. To my displeasure, I find the young woman throwing herself against curvy shelves and tables, sliding the items on top of them to the floor while yelling, “Vanities. Everything vain! These are nonsense, and it’s cruel to leave them here with such a high price after your atrocities!” She stops for a moment to look around the store, glaring at my workers who all watch her. “Do you think anyone would waste money on these? I dragged the suitcase to the biggest pawnshop in the city. To liquidate it all as fast as possible, I didn't even bother haggling, accepting whatever the owner offered. Just as I was stepping out with several new bank cards, I ran right into the ever-present Karlie again. She was at a cafe across the street, having high tea with a few other socialites. Seeing me exit a pawnshop, her eyes lit up brighter than a laser show. "I knew it! The Gibson family is definitely going under! Phoebe's already selling off her jewelry to run away!"

You were practically forcing me into this marriage.” I ran my fingers through my hair, struggling to keep my temper in check. “Not only did you steal your sister’s identity, but you also planned our kidnapping.
