We spent the next few minutes perched on the counter, devouring the warm cookies, Chloe chattering excitedly about unicorns and princesses while I recounted stories from my own childhood baking adventures. Chloe giggled between bites of her cookie, her eyes wide with fascination. "Tell me another one, Auntie Amelia!" she pleaded, wiping chocolate chips from her chin with a sticky hand. I chuckled, enjoying the warmth of the cookie melting in my mouth and the joy sparkling in Chloe's eyes. "Alright, alright," I conceded. "Let me think... How about the time I tried to surprise my mom with a cake?" Chloe's eyes widened even further. "A surprise cake? Like magic?"

He tells her. She lets out a squeal and does a little dance in her seat. I call it her happy food dance. I look around, and everyone is smiling at her. There is a sealed dish on her tray with something in it. She squeals again when she opens it. There are four large cookies with some type of cream in the middle. Nate asks Ms Amy what they are. I know for a fact that Ms Amy has just made a new best friend. The cookies themselves are chocolate mocha with raspberry almond cream filling. She pops the top back on and starts eating. I hear a growl, and we look over. Tyler is trying to get himself a cookie.

I wasn’t happy because Tristan can also use the spell, but I was happy because I could get to know more about the spells I'm using, which I'm sure would be in this book. The pages of the book were old. It's like it's telling the story of a thousand years gone by. The edges tingled with the passage of time. I opened the first page, and the texture of the paper was worn and soft under my fingertips. Unlike the other books, which don't have anything on their first pages, this was different. ‘Moonlit Enchantments: A Guide to Werewolf Magic,’. It was written on the first page. The scent of mystery lingered in the air like a ghostly presence as I took a quick glance at Andrian.

I opened it with a blink of an eye and munched on one cookie, then another, then another and so on. "Geez. You're a monster" Jason grumbled and rubbed his hands where I snapped the jar away from him. "A cookie eating monster" Ryder added. I didn't mind them and continued munching on my food. I looked at them pointedly. "Well, serves you right for eating all the cookies last night" I mumble between bites. "So, you forgive us?" Jason asked looking at my stuffed face then to the cookies that is almost halfway empty. I pretended to think as I tapped my finger on ny chin repeatedly.

“I do want to be clear that I appreciate the gesture though.” As he says the words, I pick up a cookie, noting the strange texture I hadn’t noticed when I was using the spatula to scoop them from the cookie sheet into the box. I take a bite and it crumbles like sawdust in my mouth. The flavor isn't too bad, but the texture is horrendous and I chew thoughtfully, thinking about my next words. I notice Troy is watching me, a slight spark of amusement in his eyes. I swallow the bite with effort while breaking the cookie into two halves. “You know, I could use these for torture, give them to my enemies and hope they choke to death. If I ever join the Mafia, these could be my calling card.”

Half-eaten, slightly damp, definitely covered in her saliva. She holds it out to me like it’s the greatest gift in the world. I just stare at her, at this tiny girl with sticky hands and innocent eyes, offering me her chewed-up cookie like she wants to share something special. Who would believe me if I said that just a few hours ago, I was surrounded by hungry wolves, probably seconds away from being torn apart? And now, instead of facing a brutal end, I’m being offered a slobber-covered cookie by a happy toddler?

As soon as my mom’s back was turned, dad stole two cookies off the counter, and we quickly went to the living room. “Gimme, gimme.” I reached for the prize dad was holding. “Oh no!” Dad looked at the cookies in shock. “What? What’s wrong?” “These cookies… they’re….” He put the cookies in front of his eyes and growled. “They’re monster cookies!” He started chasing me around the living room. I ran around screaming and jumping over furniture, and when he caught me, I was so out of breath from running, screaming, and giggling, but I was happy. Dad gave me one of the cookies, and it was the best cookie I had ever eaten in my life.

I've never eaten lobster this tasty. Maybe Rowan doesn't know how much I love seafood, but tonight he'd definitely know. As I peel off the shell of the lobster, the cook commends my skill. “You see the way our guest eats?” Rowan's grandfather asks his little sister. “All you want is junk and wine.” Rowan has told me that Cookie wasn't a heavy eater. She just loves a few things, most of which happen to fall into the unhealthy side of diet. “I don't want to drink cranberry juice. I want wine,” Cookie grumbles.

And I definitely can’t talk to my dad. I park Wesley’s truck in the garage at the packhouse so I won’t disturb him and Haven at their home, then hop out and make my way inside, stopping in the kitchen to check for any of Cookie’s homemade cookies. I may have had dessert with Taryn at the restaurant, but Cookie’s cookies are legendary, and as much as I enjoy Claude’s food, his macarons do not compare. Only the cookies at Brewed Awakenings even come close to hers. And there is no such thing as too many cookies. Plus cookies are good brain food, which I desperately need. “Score one for Cookie Monster Beta!” I exclaim as I find a storage container on the island counter full of still warm chocola
