“Make sure you get enough rest, Ava. We’re going to be busy.” I didn’t even get a chance to refuse. Damon’s jaw twitched, and the look he gave Walter was downright murderous. I took that as my cue to leave. By the time I got home, my phone buzzed. A message from Damon. Have fun with your fuck buddy tonight. My breath hitched. What? I read the text again. My stomach twisted. Damon actually thought I slept with Walter. Walter, with his cryptic words and smug attitude, had practically made it seem that way.

He sat beside Luca, who remained hidden under the sheets. He placed the first-aid kit beside him. “Luca,” he called softly. "Go away!” Luca shouted immediately from beneath the blanket. “I don’t want you!” Damian chuckled gently at his temper. “Why do you want me to leave so badly?” he asked calmly. “Because I don’t like you!” Luca snapped, voice thick with tears. Damian leaned slightly closer. “How come you dislike me when you don’t even know me?” he asked softly. The blanket shifted.

“I want you to meet someone.” I frowned and crossed my arms, ready for whatever sleaze she’d dragged home this time. “Who?” The front door swung open behind her, and my breath caught. Salvatore stepped in, tall and sharp in a black suit, that dagger tattoo peeking from his collar. His amber eyes locked on me, a slow and wicked grin spreading across his face, the kind that promised trouble I couldn’t dodge. My legs locked, shock rooting me to the spot as every nerve screamed for me to run.

The Queen turned to the King, her mouth opening to argue, but his raised hand silenced her. Damien’s shadow fell over me as he crouched slightly, his voice low enough for only me to hear. “Don’t look, little flame,” he murmured, the words gentle despite the tension in his tone. “You don’t need to see this.” The trapdoors fell with a sickening thud. My father, my mother, my brother—gone. A scream tore from my throat, raw and uncontrollable. I collapsed to the ground, my legs giving out beneath me. I didn’t need to see it; the sound alone was enough to shatter what was left of my heart.

I wanted to vomit. Damon had done this. There was no mistaking it. “My King?” One of the men holding me left me and walked toward Damon who was sitting still by a corner, his hands covered with blood. His stare made me uncomfortable as I couldn’t tell whether he was still in his right mind or not. What if he was just resting from his killing spree and would soon snap again? He looked more like a savage at that moment than the man that was my mate. Slowly, he got up and began to walk to me. I swallowed, falling back and realizing all the other men who had brought me in there had disappeared. I shut my eyes, praying he would remember who I was and not hurt me.

Dante replied, and I shook my head, I had even watched to sleep for three hours and they would have even here if I didn’t wake up. “Can’t say I enjoy you sleep Ava, I love it more when your heart skips a beat, when your body fills with heat when I am close to you, when you pretend to be scared yet all you want is for me to touch you, I enjoy it even more when you think you prefer my brothers touch to mine when you and I both know that, even your breath would cease to exist if I was not here,” Damon smirked. “You said no torture.” Dante spoke. “Leave Damon, Dante can stay, if you are so keen on keeping me safe then one brother is enough,” I stated.
