A door at the end of the bone-hall burst open. Dante ran in, face streaked with black dust, clothes torn. He wasn’t alone. Hope perched on his shoulders, clutching pieces of the golden key. “Let her go!” Dante yelled, diving across the room. He slammed his shoulder into Marcus’s thorn-arm. The blow broke Marcus’s hold. June collapsed, coughing and gasping for air. Dante hovered over her, chest heaving, eyes blazing. “You okay?” Dante asked, reaching to help her up.

He took a break from his smoking and stared back at Damon who was pacing up and down in the old room scattered with chairs. “What would you have me do?” Lucas inquired coldly this time and Damon scoffed. “Kill him!” Lucas stared at him for an extended amount of time before letting out a casual laugh. “You think Dante is that one person you could get rid of so easily? As much as he has been off this game for 10 years he still has greater power, connection, and aliens compared to us. It would not take him a minute to whip our head off this game. So stay still!”

Still hunched down in front of her, Dante pulled a radio off his belt and said, "Marquez here, where's my ride at?" A crackling reply answered, "ETA ten minutes." Dante leered down at her, menace twisting his good looks. "I think I'll fuck you in his bed. We'll find out how much he wants for my sloppy seconds. I'd rather deal with money than shit like Delgado. Now that Miami is closed, I can use the extra cash."

A black SUV pulls up, dust billowing around it as it comes to a stop. The door opens, and sure enough, but it’s Dante, his expression grim as he steps out. He’s followed by Axton for some reason. Of course, I fucking forgot Dante is based here. Fuck, that demon did a number on me. “Ah, I think I might like the calvary,” I greet him, my voice a low growl. “Took you long enough, asshole.”

Smoke, thick and tasting of burnt copper and ozone, rolled down the corridor. "Pressure's fine, Bianca! The goddamn frame is warped!" Dante shoved past her, his knuckles white as he gripped the manual override lever. His jaw creaked. Sweat cut tracks through the soot on his face. He heaved, the tendons in his neck standing out like iron cables. With a violent clack, the lever gave way. "Get the kid. Now!"

"If you made it here in this storm, you must have at least four-wheel drive." Dante, never missing a chance to show off, especially in front of a pretty woman, even an irritated one, stepped forward with his smug grin. "Oh, absolutely," he said, gesturing vaguely toward the door as if the car might magically appear. "Latest-model Land Rover. Four-wheel drive, special snow tires, diesel heater, stability control… basically the perfect machine for these conditions." He was clearly posturing, puffing out his chest a little. "Great," the woman cut in flatly, holding out her hand, palm up, in an unmistakable gesture. "Keys."

Dean banged his spear against the floor and managed to close the portal. "My friend!" Yama chuckled, his voice loud enough to down the sound of buzzing. I gawked at him as he was in one of his crazy suits which were too blinding for my eyes. He was the only demon who inherited the throne without having to fight for it. The longest-running Demon King. Most of them admired him for that quality and feared him at the same time. Then again he looked like the kind of person who cannot even hurt a fly. With his tall slender body, gangly arms and brown chocolate eyes he looked like the boy next door.

“That’s the one, huh?” Evelyn turned, jaw tight. A man emerged from the passenger seat. Slightly shorter than Damien, he was stockier, wearing joggers and a fitted tank top that clung to biceps sculpted like Roman statues. Tattoos curled along his arms, and his smirk was just as annoying. “Evelyn, meet my brother, Dante,” Damien said, clearly entertained. “The personal trainer,” Dante added, flexing a little. “I run gyms up and down the East Coast.”
