Dating Your Neighbor Novels & Stories

In the basket, I left a note: Kristen, You may or may not be surprised to find that I miss your company. I would like to make up for my rather rash behavior the other day and I’d love to start fresh. Please accept my delicious and sincere peace offering, and consider meeting me for dinner Sunday evening. Same place and time as before (: Sincerely, Your Pretentious Neighbor I placed it on her front step the next morning while I knew she was away on her daily run. A few hours later I heard a knock at my door while I was in my basement working on breeding.

She pointed at a single couch, a naughty smile stretching across her face. I made my way over and sat down, dropping my school bag on the floor beside me. "So tell me," I started, trying to distract myself from the dull ache still sitting in my chest. "Who is he?" A wide grin spread across her face as she dropped onto the couch across from me. "He's our neighbor. Just moved in." "How old is he?" I asked. "Way older than me." "Are you guys dating?" I raised an eyebrow at her. "Nope. We're just fuck buddies."

They didn't sleep around or act crazy. When the neighbors found out what happened to me, they rallied together and organized a fundraiser for me. I didn't have to work three jobs anymore. I slowly learned that real safety didn't come from guns or locked doors. It came from people looking out for each other. In the new neighborhood, Draven made a lot of good friends. He grew brighter and more cheerful every day. The smile came back to his face. As he got better, so did I. What Rina did to us became a wake-up call, a reminder to always hold onto your values and not throw yourself into relationships with just anyone.

And it's almost laughable because she keeps saying that and doesn't do anything at the end. “I'm not stalking you, Ivy. I live here, just wanted to say hello and — please don't be too hard on this new neighbor,” I tell her and watch her face drain of color. For a few heartbeat, she just stares at me like I've just cracked one hell of a bad joke. She opens her mouth to say something but clamps it shut, when she opened it again, I was faster. I glance at my watch and retort. “I have to go, I've got a meeting in ten. Please extend my hello to Aria, have a good day, neighbor.” There's a smile in my voice as I say this and Ivy was even too stunned to reply back.

Beautiful things are lethal. I squint, peering into eyes of deep, burnished brown that seem to hold a hidden fire within. Flecks of amber dance at the edges, pushing back at the unnerving coldness in them. Thick, black lashes flutter against tanned, golden skin as his gaze narrows at the blood on my flimsy nightdress, and against my better judgement, I blurt, “It isn’t mine.” The man, whom I recognize from yesterday as my neighbor raises his brows as he helps me up to my feet. “Is he dead?”

It was midnight. I was sound asleep when loud, aggressive pounding on my front door rudely woke me. Groggy and annoyed, I barely cracked the door open before a bucket of foul-smelling water splashed all over me. The icy shock jolted me awake. The stench made me gag before I looked up in fury. Standing in front of me were my neighbors from across the hall.

The muffled hum of the city outside, the faint creak of the lobby floor beneath our shoes, even the soft hiss of the elevator closing, it all disappeared. “Morning,” he said. His voice was calm, easy, carrying that familiar warmth that made my chest tighten without warning. “Morning,” I replied, trying to steady my breath as I adjusted my scarf. My hands were cold, my heart inexplicably fast, and I had to remind myself that we were just neighbors. Nothing more. Nothing complicated even though my mind refused to listen. “You’re up early,” he said with a slight smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “Somewhat,” I admitted. “You too, I suppose.”

I gave my friend a reassuring smile. From the corner of my eye I could just make out Aiden making his way towards us. "Hey there neighbor!" Aiden greeted bumping my shoulder with his playfully as he joined me and Skylar in the crowded college hallway. I had recently discovered that Aiden and Skylar were actually neighbors, he lived in the house just across the street. And now since I had moved in with Skylar he was my neighbor too. I gave him a warm smile, "Hey yourself." I responded bumping his shoulder back.

She squints her eyes and smiles happily when she realised it was Blake and I. "Hi there neighbors!" She shouts with a slight tone of giddiness. Great. Note my sarcasm. Just fucking great. Blake smiles and waved at her." Guess we'll catch up sooner than we thought. How about you come over for dinner tonight? It's the least we could do for a new neighbor!" He shouts. I turn to glare at him over the car. He doesn't notice too busy smiling at an equally happy Christal. Christal's smile broadened at his words. "I'd love to. I'll bring over some homemade cheesecake, we can have that for dessert!" She says.

Neither of our jobs was conducive to short hours and we knew that, but it was times like this weekend I felt the effects of our busy lives. Our busy boring lives, I added as I looked over to see our next door neighbor Charlotte sitting on her deck in her bathing suit. Damn she was hot. Years ago Jack and I would have tried to feel her out to get a chance to feel her up. These days however, with our careers and social status we couldn't take the chance so best we could do was talk about her. Whisper the dirty things we would do to her while we fucked the shit out of each other.
