Novel & Cerita Difficult Novels To Read

I didn't realize how behind I am with my reading. I almost panicked when I saw this year's novel. It's 1984 by George Orwell, who thought this would be a good idea. On a normal day I would have enjoyed it but right now I'm on a deadline to complete three assignments based on the book.

Some of them read multiple times judging by the cracking of the binding. History. Military strategy. Economics. Law. Psychology. Philosophy. One entire shelf of biographies of powerful men across different centuries and continents. And then something that surprised me. Fiction. A whole section of it tucked into the far corner like something private. Novels. Some of them old enough that the titles had faded. I pulled one out carefully. A Russian novel. Thick. Dense. The kind of book that required patience and silence and the willingness to sit inside discomfort for extended periods.

I say with a smile. “Knut started, but…it’s difficult.” “It took me many years,” I say as I study the spines of the books. “It’s not the easiest language to learn, but you will…if there’s one thing vampires have it’s time.” I frown at a thick, black book without a title on the spine. It looks out of place among the Navjahi books surrounding it. The book is twice the length of the ones on either side of it, and four times thicker. I pull the heavy, dusty tome from the shelf and stare at the cover.

The specific and particular history of people who had been present at large events and had not been the people the large events were usually said to be about. She read novels. The novels were harder to characterize. They were not genre novels and not literary novels in the specific and self-conscious way of novels that were aware of being literary. They were simply good novels, or what appeared, from the evidence of the way she held them, the specific and attentive quality of a woman who was genuinely inside a book rather than processing it, to be good novels. She had read one I recognized. She had read several I did not.
