I grabbed Christopher's arm discreetly, gripping tightly into his flesh. Anyone who looked closely would notice his fingers twitching slightly from the intense pain. However, it seemed he had anticipated this and used an anesthetic to avoid giving himself away. Fine—if he couldn't move, that worked to my advantage. I wailed at the top of my lungs, drawing the attention of everyone nearby. "What?!" I shrieked. "My husband just passed away, and you expect me to smile? This hospital is inhumane! Christopher was one of your doctors, but I don't see even a trace of grief on your face! Did you want him to die?"

It can't. “But make no mistake, because the moment I walk out of this house, I'm officially signing up as a lone omega with no background. And then you'll have to lose any potential honor that could come with my position as ‘Head Doctor’ at Dark Orchid's Royal Clinic. You can always find out if those papers are forged or authentic after that. Fair enough, right?” I asked, my gaze trained on my father's faltering gaze.

Scarlet and I exchanged confused glances. “Oh my, I heard Doctor Theo is really here today. He’s so handsome.” I turned slightly toward Scarlet. “Theo?” She nodded, eyes lighting up. “Doctor Theoris Lucian Moreau. He’s the most famous, the most brilliant, and the owner of major hospitals around the world, including this one. He’s a billionaire doctor.” My eyes widened as I slowly nodded. “He became famous at a young age. He’s a genius.” “You seem to know a lot about him.”

They had secured her legs to the table near her ankles. Doctor Snake—so named for the snake tattoo that twisted up and around his neck—was busy scribbling notes on a tablet as they pulsed electricity through the twin metal spikes they’d inserted into her torso. Her skin glowed with each pulse. “Interesting,” he muttered. Doctor Ghost pressed the cattle prod to my back. The pain was white-hot and immediate. “Get on the table, thirty-eight. Quit gawking.”

He had paid a lot of money to be examined at a private hospital that had so many doctors who had graduated overseas. He naturally expected excellent service. However, the doctor who had examined him annoyed him, and he almost regretted spending so much money to get checked at that hospital. "I'm sorry, sir. Here's the thing ... I found some abnormalities in one of your organs," the doctor said with a strange expression on his face. Joe swallowed hard, “What’s wrong with it? Which part of the organ is strange?” “Your intestines.” Joe could no longer hide his fear. His eyes widened completely, “My intestines? What’s wrong with my intestines?”

"I did not think that you were going to come." "Alpha Dominic," Dr. Strahovsky smiled but her eyes still maintained their coldness. "It would have been foolish to turn down such a rare opportunity like this." She gazed at me and her eyes went from cold to curiosity. "Finally. I get to the see the Omega who fights off Betas and Alphas." I frowned at her with mild confusion. "Am I famous already?" I asked. "You are notorious and quite popular amongst us doctors. You are a rare phenomenon and I would like to cut you open just to see how you function, with your permission of course." She replied.

Ophelia stepped discretely to one side but didn’t leave the bed even as the doctor examined Marcus’s bandaged wound. “Can you wiggle your toes for me? Any numbness?” the doctor queried. “Just the usual, wounded pride and ego,” Marcus replied with a lopsided grin. The doctor arched an eyebrow at Ophelia. “He seems lively enough. But we’ll increase the painkillers a little.” Ophelia nodded, grateful, and watched as they made small adjustments. After a brief check, and some standard instructions (“No sudden movements,” “Call us if you feel worse”), the doctor left, closing the door behind him.

My dirty question just hangs in the quiet room. Instead of getting mad, the doctor—who is literally just a giant eyeball dressed like a white nun—laughs. Her voice echoes right inside my head like a sweet, happy bell. "I'm so sorry, sweetie," she purrs. "But I lost those kinds of...urges when my body mutated. But hey, if you're into monsters, I highly recommend my coworker." Right on cue, the heavy curtain at the back of the clinic pushes open. A huge guy steps out into the bright light.

“Parents who raise someone like that can’t be any better!” Dr. Hamilton, who was helped forward by a few people, cleared his throat and said, “I’ve practiced medicine for over forty years. I would never falsify records. I personally reviewed this document. Milo was indeed in the dispensing room at the time. I saw him with my own eyes.” Suddenly, a male doctor in a white coat rushed forward. He grabbed my mom by the hair and slammed her head against a nearby bulletin board. She screamed as blood immediately began seeping from her forehead.

The gods of medicine she had learned from, the senior surgeons whose hands she watched with awe in the operating theaters. Tonight, the ballroom looked like a den of vipers. A waiter brushed past them, carrying a silver platter of champagne flutes. The delicate crystal glasses bumped against each other, a thin, ringing clink that echoed through the marble hall. Isabella flinched. The fragile sound pierced her ears, echoing perfectly in her mind as the harsh clatter of the stainless steel forks she had bent into makeshift retractors against the warehouse floor. She looked down at the crowd. Standing near the marble bar was Doctor Sterling, the Chief of Residents. He threw his head back in a b
