The Cost of Saving Him
Lola was being buried, and there would be a service, with Mina in attendance.
The night before the funeral, I decided to see my brother, find out what I could about her. I drove over, walked in, and found him. “We need to talk, Luca.” He nodded, “Outback, what’s wrong?” We walked through the house and out the back door. Max greeted us, playfully jumping on me. “You know, dogs need attention from their uncles from time to time.” I looked at him mid rub of Max’s head, “You know damn well he isn’t a dog, this is a monster of a wolf right here. Respect his bloodline, asshole.” Max growled, not in a mean way; his tail was going a mile a minute. Luca laughed.
