The longest, loudest yawn she’d ever done. Her eyelids were so heavy now, but how could that be? How could you fall asleep when you were already dreaming? “Just the bathroom.” Mom hums, unconcerned, and goes back to the stove. I take a bite of toast. Chew slowly. Let the silence stretch. “I slept great,” I announce to no one in particular. “Better than I have in months, actually. Really deep. I don’t think I moved all night.” Ethan chokes on his orange juice. Jack drops his fork. “That’s nice, honey,” Mom says without looking up. “Yeah.” I smile sweetly at my stepbrother, who’s gone pale as a ghost. “I had the most interesting dream, too. But I can’t quite remember it. Isn’t that weird? When you have a really good dream, but you can’t remember the details?”

I hadn't even noticed when Sofia slipped out of the room. I reached into my hair, yanking on the strands to wake myself up from what was turning out to be a bad dream. I closed my eyes for a brief second, hoping that when I would open them again, I would be waking up from this terrible dream. "It's just a dream! It's just a dream! It's just a dream!" I muttered, chanting the words like a mantra in hopes that they would come true. I had to wake up from this dream. I had to open my eyes and see myself in my bedroom. I had to see myself with my actual friend, my real husband. And my baby bump- my baby had to be in my stomach. I had to wake up to reality.

Before long she fell asleep with books littered all over the bed and the floor. Aj was trying as he made himself into a tight ball above her head. It was only seconds when Aj started to snore. Once she entered the astral plane, she felt like she was floating. Ever since Thomas had taught them to dream walk, Sage had been trying to protect everyone by popping into their dreams occasionally, and now she just wanted to remember the good times with her dad & mom.
